US Version vs. Other versions
This article, as with the other domestic Discovery Channel articles, covers the US version of Animal Planet. Versions for other nations should be covered under entries for those separate versions -- just as has been done for other American channels that have overseas counterparts. --Mhking (talk) 05:21, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- The problem is, the article is not very clear as to what its focus is, Animal Planet as a whole or just the US channel. It needs to be retooled specifically to say that, if its going to be limited to that, and then articles made for all of the others, including Animal Planet Canada, Animal Planet International (AKA UK), and Animal Planet Australia, at the minimum. Right now, it seems to be a combo of Animal Planet US and Animal Planet International, with only Canada appearing to have its own page. AnmaFinotera (talk) 14:14, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
The new Animal Planet logo won't make its appearance until tomorrow or Sunday.
The new Animal Planet logo won't make its appearance until tomorrow or Sunday. It will replace the 12-year-old elephant and globe logo. AdamDeanHall (talk) 21:43, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Three letter abreviation
what would be nice is if someone could put down the three letter abreviatoin for animal planet. For example NFL and so forth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.143.3.182 (talk) 22:33, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Content
I think this page might benefit from more information about its programming - some sort of attempt to characterize it more clearly but succinctly, in addition to how that programming has evolved since the channel started. I think that quote about the nature of the recent change is relevant - but left me feeling like that section was kind of incomplete. I actually did a fairly lengthy paper on Animal Planet as documentary in graduate school - it's one of those topics that on the one hand seems like irrelevant pop culture, but the closer you look at it, there's a lot to it. It's also a fairly popular and widely-viewed channel, despite the ratings drop mentioned in the article.Sinderbloog (talk) 17:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
--Also, while I know I should complain less about changes that need to be made and should just attempt making them myself (time, time,...), I do think it's odd that some of the pages for individual shows on the channel are actually of comparable length to the channel's page. Thoughts about sections to add? A response or reception section? More on revenues/business end of the channel? Pop culture references? Part of the problem, as always, is sources -- there isn't much secondary source material on the subject, a problem I ran into while trying to write a paper on it. Who took down my edits and why?
Who took down my edits about severe favoritism of dogs on Animal Planet? It may be an opinion but its true. Animal Planet has 50 shows about dogs but only 1 about cats. I'm putting it back up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomcat4680 (talk • contribs) 09:07, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- i didn't but i know why someone did. Wikipedia is not a forum for viewer opinions. please see WP:NPOV for more info. (and by the way, you can always check a page's history to see who else is making edits. Fhue (talk) 05:29, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
The elephant logo
I think the logo used 1996-2008 is very significant to the subject, and that it should be included in the article. It is especially significant when talking about the relaunch in 2008, when the network wanted to shed the perception of them being "paternalistic, preachy, and observation-based". As mentioned in the article, this included getting rid of the old logo, which could be described as academic, boring, stoic, messy etcetera. This cannot be conveyed adequately without an image of the old logo.
The spirit of WP:NONFREE and WP:LOGOS is more targeted at avoiding using logos as mere decorations without relevance to the article text, which isn't the case here. Väsk (talk) 14:59, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- The old log is not significant in the context of the article, nor does the article make the claims you've indicated about the old logo, only that it was replaced as part of the image redo. The logo is not necessary to convey that the channel's image was changed. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 15:25, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- What you interpreted as false claims about the content about the article, was me trying describe how one could "feel" about the logo. My point was that this can never be adequately expressed neutrally and that it is therefore better to include the logo in the article and let the readers judge for themselves.
- This is a quote from the article, with the parts that make me think an image is needed in bold:
- On February 3, 2008, Animal Planet "relaunched" itself under a new image that "sheds its soft and furry side for programming and an image with more bite." As part of the relaunch, Animal Planet replaced their elephant and spinning globe logo for a starker text image that allows more flexibility in its usage.
- How best to show what this "soft and furry side" looked like? How best to show what the current image has "more bite" than? How best to show what the current logo is starker than? How best to show what "allowed less flexibility" than the current logo? And does the reader understand what "their elephant and spinning globe" is? Väsk (talk) 17:32, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- The logo does not express their shedding this. It is the change in programming, detailed in the section, that goes into how it changed its image. Image, in this case, is not logo, its what it projects as a channel and the type of content. And no, an elephant and a spinning globe do not need showing. That is a perfectly adequate description of two common items. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 20:46, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Proposed merge with Animal planet l!ve
channel is a subsidiary of Animal Planet Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 13:47, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
- Merge --Vigyani (talk) 00:27, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose merge - the other article is large enough and on a distinct enough topic to justify a stand-alone article. (Note: since this discussion was never concluded, I have reverted removal of the merge templates from the two articles and unarchived this discussion.) Yngvadottir (talk) 19:43, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

==Assessment, August 12 2007== Re-assessed from high importance to low importance for the BBC WikiProject. Bearing in mind that the BBC broadcasts and produces hundreds of thousands of different shows, and that, compared to some like Doctor Who this isn't highly notable, a 'low' rating really is appropriate here. Pit bull service dogs
Has anyone ever rescued the Pit Bull breed from shelters and tried to train them for service dogs? If not they make great Emotional support dogs for PTSD, our veteran's. Pit Bulls are not bad like everyone portrays them to be some are not able to make service dogs or emotional support dogs. Because they have been abused or fought, but some are euthanized because of their breed. Dhardin71 (talk) 06:41, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
