My apologies -- I understood that this was the appropriate way to indicate factual updates to pages where there is a COI ,with the assumption that editors would use their discretion as to what to implement or not implement. The evidence links were added to show that the factual information was backed up, and not to include on the page -- I would hope that a university website is considered a reliable source.

If I was out of line to suggest these factual edits, I'm sorry - although I'm not sure why this has led to the flag on the wikipedia page. 2020science (talk) 22:17, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

To clarify, the flag at the top of the article refers to the article as it currently stands and is there because the article has previously been edited by a user who was a WP:SPA and some form of conflict of interest may be plausibly assumed. This refers to activity that occurred many years ago but the editor in question is still the majority contributor to the present article text.

With regard to the edit request above, you are correct that this process is the correct way to request edits to the article. However, edits must be reliably sourced to independent sources and may not be closely paraphrased from elsewhere. All material to be added to an article must be backed up by sources, which would also be required to be placed within the article itself.

As a general observation, I do not consider university websites to be an independent source as profiles for academics on such websites are regularly either written by the subjects themselves or constructed from details provided by the subjects.

As a general rule, Wikipedia records what is said about a subject by reliable independent sources. If there are no such independent sources then the information cannot be sufficiently notable to warrant inclusion in an encyclopaedia.
