Expanded and tidied up
[edit]Hi. I have expanded and referenced all the content in the article - however, the bit about Jeff Winter is unverifiable, and the first match at the Emirates Stadium was not refereed by Andre - Dennis Bergkamp's testimonial was controlled by Alain Hamer (Luxembourg)[1]. They have therefore reluctantly been removed. If you can find verification for the Jeff Winter 'fact', please re-instate with the source. Thanks. Liverpool – Manchester United
[edit]{{editsemiprotected}} There should be mention of his officiating in the Liverpool-Manchester United game. A quick Google News search finds over 150 stories from reputable sources criticizing his officiating. I find it appalling that User:Ged_UK, a self-described Liverpool fan, is blocking any edits from this article. I've been a member for over 3 years and he is keeping me from objectively editing this page. --Rob Action (talk) 09:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- Not done per WP:NOTNEWS. Whilst yesterday's game has of course has received a lot of recent coverage, it is not a topic of historic significance, and should not be included in the article. Were it a major cup final rather than a regular league fixture, the referee's involvement in it may have been worthy of mention, but no. AJCham 12:02, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I completely disagree with your interpretation of WP:NOTNEWS, but hey, you're the big guy. And, I'm not. RobAction 14:14, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- I merely stated the reasons I did not think the edit should be made, and referred to the relevant policy. If I am wrong, please explain why rather than resorting to insults. Feel free to then replace the {{editsemiprotected}} tag so that another editor can review the proposal, and perhaps come to a different conclusion. AJCham 16:07, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, but no thanks. As far as I am concerned that matter is done and over with. Also, please do not accuse me of dropping insults. RobAction 16:34, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

==Controversy==
On 17 April 2011 in a fixture between Arsenal and Liverpool, Marriner gave away a penalty to the away team in the dying seconds when Dutch international Dirk Kuyt appeared to have simulated a foul. The Liverpool man converted the penalty with the last kick of the game and the match concluded at 1-1, effectively ending Arsenal's title hopes. [1]

- Not doneWhen all the upset Gooners have calmed down we will add in a neutral note about this game, but for now it is merely a recentism and as a neutral fan I have to say that Marriner's decisions were absolutely correct. --TBM10 (talk) 17:38, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

On 30 April Marriner was involved in more controversy in a Chelsea v Tottenham. A Frank Lampard shot bounced off Heurelho Gomes's fingers and stopped on the goal-line. The goal was given and has stirred more debate about Video Technology in football. Thanks. Itsupforgrabsnow (talk) 17:37, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

- Not done You don't have a specific change, you don't have a reliable source, and Wikipedia is WP:NOTNEWS CTJF83 18:16, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- Also the article is not protected. — Bility (talk) 23:05, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
The reasons given above make no sense, whether then or now. There was a specific change, there were numerous reliable sources, and Wikipedia is updated with news all the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.44.182.214 (talk) 00:13, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Name format
[edit]The Football League website calls him André Marriner - do we have any reason not to use his official designation?
- The Premier League website doesn't. That's probably why. --TBM10 (talk) 18:59, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- Good point! Thanks! :-) TerriersFan (talk) 00:29, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
