- Recess 2- Edmond Grethen (1898-1945) – Inspector from Indo China.
- Recess 3- Raymond Anne (1922-1944) – Member of French Resistance.
- Recess 4- Maboulkede (1921-1944) –Soldier of the Free French Army.
- Recess 5- Berty Albrecht (1893-1943) – Member of French resistance. committed suicide after being tortured in Fresnes prison.
- Recess 6- Maurice Debout (1914-1944) – Prisoner of war.
- Recess 7- Pierre Ulmer (1916-1940) – Soldier of 1940.
- Recess 8- Georges Brière (1922-1944) – Sailor from the Marines.
- Recess 9- Empty. Reseved for a Compagnon de la Libération
- Recess 10- Alfred Touny (1886-1944) – Member of the Resistance.
- Recess 11- Jean Charrier (1920-1944) – Infantry soldier.
- Recess 12 : Allal Ould M'Hamed Ben Semers (1920-1944) –Soldier from Morocco
- Recess 13 : Mohamed Amar Hedhili Ben Salem Ben Hadj (1913-1940) –Soldier from Tunisia.
- Recess 14 : Arnaud Henri (1907-1944) – French Air Force.
- Recess 15 : Maurice Duport (1919-1944) – 22nd North African Battalion.
- Recess 16 : Antonin Mourgues (1919-1942) – Marine from France's Pacific possessions.
- Recess 17 : Renée Lévy (1919-1942) - Member of Resistance.
The 16 sculptures, each by different sculptors, are arranged in groups of 8 on each side of the Cross of Lorraine. They are:-
- "Alsace" by sculptor Joseph Rivière. Celebrates the liberation of Alsace from November 1944 to February 1945.
- "Casabianca" by sculptor Georges Saupique. Celebrates the submarine "Casabianca" escaping from Toulon on 27 November 1942,
- "Paris" by sculptor Marcel Damboise. Celebrates the liberation of Paris 25 August 1944.
- "Maquis" by sculptor Raymond Corbin. Celebrates the actions of the "maquisards".
- "Alençon" by sculptor René Leleu. Celebrates the Normandy Landing and the action of Leclerc's 2nd Division and the liberation of Alençon on 11 August 1944.
- "Saumur" by sculptor Pierre Duroux. Celebrates the fighting in Saumur from 19 to 21 June 1940, part of the "Battle of France."
- "Déportation" by sculptor Henri Lagriffoul. In memory of those deported and sent to concentration and extermination camps.
- "FAFL" by sculptor Claude Grange. The forces of the Free French Airforce are remembered.
- "Action" by sculptor Alfred Janniot, General de Gaulle's speech of 18 June is remembered. He refuses an armistice and thus arguably gives birth to the Free French forces and the Resistance.
- "Fezzan" by sculptor Andre Bizette-Lindet. Remembers General Leclerc's taking of the Koufra oasis and conquering of Fezzan. See opening comments.
- "Fusillés" by sculptor Maurice Calka. Remembers that between 1940 and 1944 many members of the Resistance and hostages, both French and foreigners, were shot by the Germans.
- "Cassino" by sculptor Ulysse Gemignani. Remembers the contribution of General Juin and his forces to the taking of Monte Cassino.
- "Bir Hakeim" by sculptor Raymond Martin. Remembers the action of the 1st Brigade Free French Army defending Bir Hakeim in Libya from 27 May to 10 June 1942.
- "Narvick" by sculptor Robert Juvin. Remembers the French Expeditionary Force's action in Norway.
- "Sienne" by sculptor René Andrei. Remembers the liberation of Sienna on 3 July 1944.
- "Rhin" by sculptor Louis Dideron. Remembers the French Army's repulsing of the German offensive at Strasbourg and the freeing of the Rhine.[1]
