Venezuela

Since Venezuela joined MERCOSUR does it be now associate member, obeserver country or no relation at all? Alinor 10:00, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Venezuela is not included as an associate member or observer on the Community's page [1], so I guess there is no such relation. However, there are still some agreements binding the countries that take 5 years to phase out.--Gabbec 11:58, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Venezuela will mostly likely be recognized as an associate member too, precisely because there are agreements that make all Mercosur countries associate members of CAN and vice-versa, within the SCN, even if the linked page hasn't been updated to properly reflect this in the case of Venezuela (perhaps the webmaster is not aware of this and has only chosen to reflect Venezuela's evident exit from the CAN). That condition may not have been explicitly formalized or alluded to yet, but it's definitely implicitly clear IMO, here and in the SCN article too. The article can do without that for now, of course (given the preference for proper and explicit sourcing), but I do believe that it will eventually become completely clear, one way or another. Those are good points, the website isn't necessarily accurate and it's the natural step to extend associate membership to Venezuela as a MERCOSUR member. Whether the Chávez administration has any interest in this is more uncertain, so yes, some formal resolution of this issue should be awaited for the article. Maybe a mention of the uncertainty of Venezuela's condition would be good, but if anyone can find a good source addressing it, it would be much better of course.--Gabbec 13:24, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

According to this May interview with Secretary General Wagner (in Spanish), the Andean Parliament recommended having Venezuela as an associate member, but it's not clear from elsewhere whether this is or will be the case.--Gabbec 14:52, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

This is from the CAN site of 15 August - [2] and covers the contractual relations of CAN with Venezuela - it doesn't say anithing about observer/associate status - regardless of Venezuela's MERCOSR membership... 199.64.72.252 12:44, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Chile

Is Chile really "in the process of re-joining"? I know that it's been proposed and there were going to be more discussions in Lima after today's inauguration of Alan García, but is there any confirmation that they want to join? --Gabbec 12:35, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Just a comment, it looks from both of those that Chile would become an associate member rather than a full one, which might be worth noting. Maybe something more formal will emerge soon.--Gabbec 14:52, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

"Chile Says May Return to Andean Trade Bloc, if It's Formally Invited

LIMA, Peru (AP) -- Chile will likely return to the Andean Community trade bloc if its four member countries extend a formal invitation, Chile's foreign minister said Saturday.

Alejandro Foxley, who was in Lima for Peruvian President Alan Garcia's inauguration Friday, told Peru's CPN radio that "it seems we are going to say yes" to a formal invitation to rejoin the trade bloc if it is offered. It would end Chile's 20-year absence from the group."

"Normativa Andina"

Is the Andean Community of Nations also referred to as "la normativa andina" in Spanish? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.28.235.129 (talk) .

I've never heard of the term in that context, as I understand it from its use on the Community's website, it's just a generic name for the structure and agreements within the Community's framework. --Gabbec 20:10, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Andean Parliament

Why does Andean Parliament redirect to this page, the CAN and Andean Parliament are separate entities, a new page is needed for info on the Parliament ([[4]]). Pexise 15:23, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

You are generally right, even though the Andean Parliament is an entity within the Andean Community (it's referred as Andean Congress in this article, "Parliament" seems more appropriate), if I understand it correctly.
