Fixing grammar and references
[edit]I was reading over this article and found this portion of the settlement description somewhat off and I don't know/can't find enough info to correct it.
However the cruelty of the Russians toward the local population forced them to look for protection from Manchuria. After the Opium War, when the Manchurian Empire was exposed to the outside world, Russian explorers once again moved to the region (mostly Cossacks and peasant farmers)
The first sentence is confusing. The problem is the ambiguous pronoun (them). I'm assuming "them" is refering to the local population but the sentence doesn't make it clear. Also, it is not clear what the implications of the word from are in this context either. Is someone protecting themselves from Manchuria, or is someone seeking protection in/from Manchuria? Again, I'm assuming the local population is seeking protection in/from Manchuria. I'd be willing to clean this up, however, since no sources are cited and none of my own sources have anything to go by as far as these statements are concerned, I don't want to simply delete or falsely correct something. Does anyone have the original sources used for the settlement section?--Diet Herbal Tea 06:54, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
