File:Amstel.jpg to appear as POTD soon
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Amstel.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on August 10, 2011. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2011-08-10. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 18:23, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Historic Course Through Amsterdam
[edit]Would anyone with the ability be willing to make a map of the old course of the Amstel, but show the old course over a modern map of the city? I've always been very interested in the exact course of the old river after Muntplein. --Criticalthinker (talk) 09:14, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Amsterdam < Amstelerdam, not Amsteldam
[edit]Amsterdam derives from Amstelredam/Amstelerdam and definitely not Amsteldam. '-er' is an old genitive also evident as '-r' in Rotterdam, i.e. Dam on the Rotte (name of a river). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wjvanb (talk • contribs) 11:04, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
Image of Amestelle
[edit]I've included an image of the name "Giselberto de Amestelle" on a detail from a 12th-century document, because this is the earliest use of the name "Amestelle" which evolved into the name Amstel. – Pungitius (talk) 23:35, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
