[edit]The reason for the use of multiple 10 inch drivers instead of the traditional 12 or 15 inch driver, was the clever exploitation of acoustical characteristics. The 10 inch driver has a resonant frequency above the fundamental of any of the strings on a four or five string bass. by using a sealed cabinet containing four groups with two tens in each, even smooth low end response is achieved. this also provides substantial acoustical output and power handling capacity.
6146 Inaccuracy.
[edit]"The 6146B proved to be unstable in the high-voltage amp"... The 6146 is a high-voltage transmitting tube. The alleged high failure rate was due to the overall amp design, not any shortcoming of the tube. The poor design is referenced later in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.199.230.54 (talk) 23:44, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Sinebot is correct. The original circuit design failed to realize that the 6146B was not intended for hard overdrive (grid current) nor continuous use. I specified the 6146B to be used in the SVT (Super Vacuum Tube)because it was inexpensive and physically rugged and every part of the SVT. I designed the SVT speaker system which was original thinking and speakers (drivers developed with Bill Long of CTS Paducah KY) for a bass amplifier. As Director of Product Development and later VP Operations every model in the product line taken to market in 1969 was from my work and my work alone, regardless of other incorrect references that may be seen elsewhere which are just others piling on a successful product - which still survives to this day.

3rd type?
[edit]The Types section starts with "There are three types of original SVT amps" and then proceeds to describe the first two in the first two paragraphs. It is unclear however if the MTI models are the third type previously alluded to or not, namely because they could arguably be thought of as not being an "original" model. If it is the third, it would be helpful to state so clearly near the top of the paragraph in order to avoid confusion and aid scannability. If it is not the third type then it would appear that the information is incomplete. 2.53.184.28 (talk) 09:37, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
