Independent sources

[edit]

Hello @Iskandar323, Hello @TheGerazmach. Would it help to add details of citations, and examples of the significant news presence, including the wide coverage given to the Amhara Association of America by the United States Congress, the various independent International media outlets that are considered as reliable by the Wikipedia itself:WP:RSPSOURCES? If the article is draftified i believe, TheGerazmach and other editors will improve it. Any recommendation? Thank you Petra0922 (talk) 21:53, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @Petra0922 @Iskander323 I added a lot more citations and awaiting another review. TheGerazmach (talk) 00:51, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @TheGerazmach. To help improving the draft, I noticed some of the bare URLs needs modifying to the other style in the content. Please see [Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Citation_style]. As example, I will make some changes manually, following similar format as the other editors. I also encourage you to review the Non-commercial Notability standards. There is a separate section for special organization under "Alternate criteria for specific types of organizations" section. Please also check [Wikipedia:Reliable_sources] for citing twitter contents— they are listed under "unacceptable user-generated sites." Petra0922 (talk) 18:27, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@TheGerazmach: The article is clearly much more substantial than it was in July, but I would advise you to avoid adding large amounts of material sourced solely from the association's website or twitter account. While organization websites can be used to clarify some very basic details about themselves, they should not be used to support large numbers statements about activities that the organization has been involved with - these need supporting with reliable sources that establish the notability of the events in question. Twitter posts can be used to quote organizations or individuals, but really only when reliable sources already support the inclusion. Iskandar323 (talk) 10:28, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Iskander323 thank you for your input. The social media and website references were intended as references of the organization's extensive human rights reporting which I felt was important for anyone interested. There is now a section dedicated to notability near the bottom of the page where references in major media outlets are shared. Please note these references are extensive and easily distinguishes the organization from other non-profit organizations in the field. TheGerazmach (talk) 18:17, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite using the external MSM sources

[edit]

The problems of needing to be based on in-depth (not just brief mentions about the subject or routine announcements), reliable, secondary, strictly independent of the subject sources remains. My suggestion is:

  • do a major rewrite, i.e. remove everything (it will remain in the history) and re-start from the mainstream media sources - that are likely to be accepted as WP:RS - listed in the section Mentions in Prominent Media Publications and Other Source to build up the main body of the article;
  • add in a small handful of notable pieces of info from AAA itself, in reasonable proportion to the independent sources, i.e. there should be much less AAA sources than independent sources, and clearly attribute it to AAA - e.g. "According to AAA, massacre X occurred on DMY at Y, in which ...;" and add info from other sources like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission on the events;
  • re-write a new lead based on the now completely rewritten content.

For the moment, any shift to main space would probably result in re-draftifying. Boud (talk) 20:51, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
