Questions

[edit]

How is the histidine removed? Do the bacteria just use it all up, or are some of the bacteria removed from the lawn and placed on a plate without histidine? Gary 04:14, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is liver extract added? MrPMonday 09:43, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article now says why. Generally speaking, for questions such as these have Wikipedia:Reference desk/Science where many knowledgeable and friendly people hang out. Dr Zak 19:42, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Adding "Larger organisms like mammals have metabolic processes that could potentially turn a chemical considered not mutagenic into one that is or one that is considered mutagenic into one that is not. Therefore, to more effectively test whether or not a chemical is mutagenic to larger organisms, rat liver enzymes can be added in an attempt to replicate this process in the Ames Test."

That would add clarity to the optional Rat Liver enzymes step in the Ames Test Akardoust (talk) 23:30, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
