Range Map

Subspecies

The article states there are 3 subspecies listing alai, caribaea and ardesiaca. This omits the nominate, Fulica americana americana. I have inserted the words, «in addition to the nominate» to correct this. In any case, the source is del Hoyo et al, 1996. Since then, according to the eBird/Clements checklists 2018, F.a.caribaea has been merged with F.a.americana, while ssp alai and ardesiaca are new recognised as species. The article needs revision.
