This redirect is written in American English, which has its own spelling conventions (color, defense, traveled) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.
For one thing, it would be interesting to know what has become of this institution. We learn about the 1940s and, of course, we remember the great Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte, among many others — but what about the ANT after 1950? Being neither a native speaker of English nor perfectly familiar with its usage, I wonder: is it acceptable (for people of non-African descent) to speak and write about the American Negro Theater, calling it by its historical name yet not clashing with today's rules of speech?
