Departures

[edit]

Why did Scott leave the show? To pursue other ventures. He left on a good note with the shop.

On the show, the only thought that Mike was using Boyd's computers to do that work, but they never said for sure either way. I've never read anything either, so unless it can be sourced, that part needs to be removed and just state the Mike was fired for working for Foose. LightningOffense 14:35, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was an episode where Boyd Coddington explicitly states this. Whether it's accurate or not is up for interpretation. Being that the workers put in so much overtime it's hard to say if/when Mike was on the clock, and as viewers we are not privy to that information. Regardless, since the accusation was directly made by Boyd who is the employer means that it is definitive. I leave it to others to note the exact episode to cite it as a reference, but I think that's marginally needed. Nodekeeper 08:59, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anybody know where Mike is now? Pucko67 80.85.120.147 18:25, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mike was seen in at least one episode of Overhaulin' so he seem to have some connection to Chip Foose.

I just wanted to say that I had seen this Mike on an episode of "Wheeler Dealers" recently where the presenter Mike went for some custom made spacing shims. The CNC machinery looked to be very advanced and expensive! So I will assume that he has set up on his own and doing OK as I didn't see the shop name but there was certainly nom mention of Chip Foose. This appears in what I assume is the new series of WD as they are now based in the States it appears!151.224.13.82 (talk) 10:19, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The dude with the frozen face muscles

[edit]

Hi, one of the guys has frozen face muscles. I've seen this in others before - is it a medical condition? Thanks. 86.17.211.191 15:24, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mike was injured in a car crash out on El Mirage Dry Lake.

The show's fate?

[edit]

What is going to happen to the show now that Coddington has passed away (rest in piece...)? Have any sort of announcements been made? Moreover, who inherits the business? Regards, --Kurt Leyman (talk) 01:58, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think his wife gets it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.183.175.7 (talk) 01:08, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was cancelled and Hot Rods By Boyd closed in 2008. The site is now the mailing address for the Coddington Foundation, the charity set up by Boyd and his wife, Jo, in 2005 to help terminal sick children.

Run date?

[edit]

The article's slugbox says that the show ran through March 30, 2008. The last item in the show's run is marked September 2007. Was there more to this show, or is the end date incorrect? -66.190.87.192 (talk) 20:44, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Max Hemi?

[edit]

I know it's way after the facts, but this is the first time that they are showing American Hotrod in UK, so does anyone know what happened to the 17-year-old Max Cohen? He was the car-mad teenager with leukaemia who helped redesign a 63 Dodge Polara with Boyd. They called it the Max Hemi. At the end of the three-parter, it was made clear his cancer was terminal and he had under a year to live. This was all in 2005, so I know it's wishful thinking but is he still alive?

It would be nice to think so, because it just feels sad and weird watching a five year old TV show for the first time with a smiling chippy teenager who may have since passed away. Like Boyd, too! Great shames.

Nah, Max didn't die. In one of the later Episodes he was shown at a convention or something at Boyd's (or where he and Boyd happened to be) and there it was revealed that he "overcame" his illness and still got his Hemi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.68.218.118 (talk) 20:34, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Really? Then the episodes with him are pretty cynical, they must have mentioned a thousand times that he had "terminal " leukemia and the whole experience was for him. How ironical he ended up outliving Coddington then. Especially as he said that he was having the car built as a testimony to the kid. The cynicism shown by Duane the retard doesn't look so bad in light of the fact Max'x cancer was not-so-critical after all/109.155.78.3 (talk) 20:49, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The episode you speak of is called "31 Truck 1" and part of the show was the 2nd annual Coddington Foundation Event. Max was very positive he had "kicked it's arse". Sadly it wasnt the case. He never got his Hemi, it was built for charity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CE9C:ED40:204B:BA30:50EE:A350 (talk) 00:57, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is Max's father - At the time the shows were filmed, Max's doctor's and his treatment protocol, claimed a 14% chance of 5 year survival. Max is still with us today at age 25. For those who who posted nasty comments, we can only pray that you never have to go through what Max went through. Three years of daily intensive Chemo is not pretty. BTW, the car raised over $500K for Make-A-Wish. God bless the children and families that need it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.137.248.193 (talk) 19:21, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Charlie

[edit]

There was a guy named Charlie on an episode of aahr. Does anyone know what he's up to lately? I'm asking this because I was watching a movie on the Sundance channel and there was a guy in the movie who looked just like him. thanx≈≈≈≈ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.106.142.209 (talk) 22:16, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Duane Mayer

[edit]

In Street Customs second season, episode "Jesse James' Challenger" (aired in 2008), Ryan Friedlinghaus tells Jesse James that he hired Duane Mayer. --Martingol (talk) 01:59, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
