Mid Cheshire line
[edit]This statement: 'Like most stations on the Mid-Cheshire line passenger numbers have risen over recent years. However, surprisingly Altrincham has lower rail passenger numbers than the nearby town of Knutsford, despite many leaving the National Rail Network at Altrincham to change to the Manchester Metrolink.' requires verification. I doubt that anyone already on a train to Manchester will get off at Altrincham to continue on to Manchester via Metrolink. And I can't imagine passengers from Cheshire would have much use for the intermediate stations that Metrolink serves. Maybe if someone could provide some figures? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.171.129.75 (talk) 15:04, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- The usage figures related to rail tickets purchased with Altrincham as the destination, not footfall at the station itself. As off-peak mid cheshire trains run only hourly The majority of commuters between Altrincham & Manchester use the far more frequent Metrolink service. Mid-Cheshire rail users bound for Manchester do change at Altrincham for a faster connection to Salford Quays, Trafford Centre, the southern end of the City Centre for the University/Town hall etc and for the direct connections to Bury.
Passengers using the Northbound train service will mostly be heading for Stockport or need to reach Picadilly Station for a connection without crossing the city centre by tram. None of these passengers will register in the stats as using Altrincham. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.56.66.172 (talk) 00:53, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Car drop offs
[edit]Redrose64 : You are stating that my comment about car drop offs is unsourced. If you go on Google Earth you can actually see 3 parking places that are marked up as "Kiss and Ride" on the side of the station adjacent to Platform 4 Altfish (talk) 21:26, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- Doing so would fail WP:NOR. As advised at Talk:Navigation Road station#Park & Ride, what is acceptable is to find an item in the Manchester Evening News, or the Sale & Altrincham Messenger, which describes car parking
problems. Then, you can add the item with a reference. Please see also WP:NOTTRAVEL and WP:NOTTIMETABLE - I sincerely doubt that the number of car drop-off points is encyclopedic. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:52, 28 October 2013 (UTC)- There is no car parking problem at Altrincham Station, the parking problem was at Navigation Road. Why would there be a story in the MEN or SAM saying, "Parking is ok at Altrincham Station"? It is a fact that they are there and a useful fact to know if you are a passenger. Altfish (talk) 16:46, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
- OK, so the word "problems" is out of context; but if there is ongoing improvement work at the station, the local press will surely have written something about what intending passengers can expect to be faced with during the works (besides the changes they may find upon completion). It may be useful: but it is also a fact that Wikipedia is not a travel guide. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:50, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
