Hysteresis

[edit]

The Beisner, et al. (2003) paper quoted in this section actually makes a different point. It debates the community (state variable) and ecological (landscape parameter) perspectives, and makes the point that hysteresis is about a shift in the landscape. It points out that a change in the state variable from the community perspective (the ball on a static landscape) is a related but different phenomena. the conclusion from this is that these two perspectives define hysteresis in different manners. the page should include this point somehow.
