Aloha Airlines is officially history

[edit]

Aloha Airlines has ceased it's cargo operations according to KITV and Honoluluadvertiser.com. Furthermore it has cleared a deal to sell it's contract services division. Changes being made. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielb087 (talkcontribs) 20:34, 28 April 2008 (UTC-7)

Aloha Airlines Fleet

[edit]

At http://www.airsafe.com/events/airlines/fleetage.htm is mentioned that the average fleetage of Aloha is 15.4 years rather than 25.4 (but it is still rather old).

FAA Exception?

[edit]

Can someone clarify the details about the exception granted to Aloha by the FAA to operate the 737-200? I'm curious as to why, but can't find any details.

  • The exemption permits airlines operating within Hawaii to use aircraft that comply with only Stage II noise regulations, rather than the quieter Stage III regulations, under certain conditions. Rather than try and summarize it, I'll point you to the text of the rule here: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode49/usc_sec_49_00047528----000-.html and in particular note section E, Hawaiian Operations. 737-200s can be operated on the US mainland, as Delta does, however these aircraft must be hushkitted to meet Stage III nose regulations, while Aloha's aircraft do not. The same exemption also applied to Hawaiian's DC-9-51 aircraft, which have since been replaced with 717-200s that do meet Stage III regulations. - Hawaiian717 23:34, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about the image used before 21 July 2006 (1st anniversary of "7/21")?.

The more better logo design should be used on the article itself. (right) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 172.159.79.213 (talkcontribs) 03:09, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Do you feel that this logo should be used instead of the one currently on the main page, and if so, why? -- Hawaiian717 14:59, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aloha is not a defunct airline

[edit]

It is not appropriate to describe Aloha as a defunct airline yet. The introductory paragraph should not be changed to read "Aloha Airlines was an American airline...", a Ceased Operations date should not be added to the infobox, the article should not be added to Category:Defunct airlines of the United States, etc. As of today, the company still operates as a cargo airline, just like Atlas Air and many others. We need to wait to see what ultimately happens to the company in bankruptcy court before making these changes. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 16:47, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like we need to protect this article to registered editors only! HkCaGu (talk) 08:08, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes from passenger to cargo

[edit]

Some changes made to the article:

  • Lounge and frequent flyer info removed.
  • Destinations removed.
  • Fleet from 27 to 6 (the cargo fleet not grounded).
  • Second paragraph of the intro moved into a different section in the article.

Aloha Air Cargo

[edit]

As Aloha Airlines is no more and its succesor is Aloha Air Cargo do we need a new article Aloha Air Cargo and leave this to cover the defunct passenger operation or rename this article ? MilborneOne (talk) 17:28, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No replies so I have created a new article for the cargo airline as it is now legally a different company. MilborneOne (talk) 09:03, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I had been thinking about this but kept forgetting to reply. I was unsure for a while but decided that the best thing to do was to split it as you have done. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 16:47, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shutdown date

[edit]

Currently the shutdown date in the infobox is listed as March 31. However, I might argue that it should be May 14, the date the sale of the cargo division to Saltchuk closed. Until then, the bankrupt Aloha Airlines/Aloha Air Group was still operating the cargo flights. Thoughts? -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 23:11, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since the cargo fleet was removed from the infobox, i'd say keep the shutdown date as March 31. Sox23 00:30, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Startup Date

[edit]

"commencing operations on Aloha Friday, July 26, 1946" - this is wrong, Aloha Friday did not get started until about 20 years later. 12.165.139.33 (talk) 23:01, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the reference to Aloha Friday. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 00:38, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
