General comments

[edit]

Firstly, this is not a badly-written article, and for a short article about a single common plant, its rather simple organisation and coverage are not totally inadequate.

However, the fact that the "As an invasive species" section takes up some 65% of the text (lead included) gives grounds for concern - it's a bit of a WP:COATRACK to say the least. Perhaps the section should be split off as a new article, and replaced with a couple of paragraphs in summary (one on the invasiveness, one on control strategies, say).

If that split were made, that would leave an article of about 10 kBytes, with only 2 sections after the longish lead: Description, and Cultivation & uses (not counting any Invasive species summary). Evidently this is unbalanced: we may note that in the lead, there is enough cited material for an Etymology section, and some mainly uncited material for a Distribution section. The lead, too, needs reshaping, as the description part reads as an alternative to the Description section, not a summary of it.

Finally, it seems a bit surprising that the article has been nominated by an IP who has made just 6 edits other than this nomination, and no edits since then (19 August). If the nominator is still with us and wishes to proceed, the suggestions above may serve as the start of a review and I'll be happy to take it gently. If there's no reply I shall know what to do. Well, in the absence of any reply or sign of activity by the IP, there seems little option but to close this as abandoned. I'll be happy to resume reviewing if nom or anyone else wishes to take it on. Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:35, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
