Happy to review the article.
Review (incomplete)
[edit]The article is too far from GA for me to want to continue the review, and so I am failing it at this stage. Criteria 1 and 3 (see WP:GACR) need a lot of work:
- The article needs to be copy edited to improve the prose, I suggest you submit the article at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests.
- The main text of the article has details missing that no biography should lack. Examples: the identity of Pettersson's parents, his name, his education, his personality, how he coped with having an abusive parent, whether he was able to support himself financially as an adult, his friends, whether he married and had a family, what happened to his viola playing when he became ill,how he is commemorated (plaques, statues, etc.).
- There are too many examples of vague ideas that say little about the man or his work. Examples: ‘he is considered one of the most important Swedish composers’ (why?); ‘a devoted international following’ (what sort of following and why was it thought to be devoted?); ‘but grew up in poor circumstances’ (what were they? why was his family poor when his father worked as a blackmith?); ‘He became a distinguished viola player’(what made him distinguished?); ‘also started composing songs and smaller chamber works in the 1930s’ (do any survive? What works are you referring to?). I could go on.
- The lead section as it stands is too short (see MOS:LEAD for guidance in providing an adequate start to the article).
- The article includes a lot of people that readers may not know know. The following is a list of some of the people who need to be ‘introduced’ in the text (e.g. the French viola player Maurice Vieux, not Maurice Vieux): Karl-Birger Blomdahl, Tor Mann, Otto Olsson, Béla Bartók, Paul Hindemith, Antal Doráti, Pablo Neruda, Frederick L. Hemke. There are others.
- Anything in the Biography section that was specifically about his music should be in the following section ('Music').
- The Discography section's external links are in the main text of the article— the main text shouldn't normally contain external links.
Particular issues with links that need to be addressed
[edit]- Lead section
- Unlink Swedish (MOS:OL).
- Link symphonies (Symphony).
- It might be worth briefly explaining what the Litteris et Artibus is.
- Put Barefoot Songs in italics.
- 1 Biography
- Unlink Stockholm (MOS:OL).
- Link dissonant (Consonance and dissonance); concerto; columbarium.
- Why are some instruments linked (e.g. alto saxophone) but not others?
- 2 Music
- Unlink duplicate links (9th in ‘the end of his 9th’; Barefoot Songs).
- Link avant-gardist (Avant-garde); motifs (Motif (music)).
- 4 Legacy
- Unlink the 3 duplicate links.
- Link ballets.
- Italics are needed for World of Glory.
- 8 External links
- 'Allan Pettersson recordings – ArkivMusic' is a dead link.
Failing
[edit]As the article is some way off from being GA, according to criteria 1 and 3, I am failing it. Amitchell125 (talk) 12:53, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
