Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on July 11, 2007.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that as many ballots were cast in four days electing Chris Young and Hideki Okajima in the All-Star Final Vote as in ten weeks electing the 2007 Major League Baseball All-Star Game starting lineup?

Experience

[edit]

All charts count seasons (including the current one) in which the player has appeared in a major league game. Other definitions of experience would entail original research. Official years of major league service and determining rookie year would require original research. Both would entail research beyond simply going to www.baseball-reference.com and counting years, which by some definitions might even be considered original research. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 17:11, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you mean by "original research." Major League Baseball has a strict definition of what constitutes a "rookie year." There are minimum plate appearances and/or innings pitched to qualify as a full season both for MLBPA purposes and "rookie" purposes. For example, Jonathan Papelbon pitched for the Red Sox in 2005, but did not pitch enough innings to qualify as having a full year's service. Ergo, 2006 is considered is rookie season. Furthermore, if we're talking about Japanese exports, their previous experience in other leagues have no bearing on MLB in terms of being a rookie or accruing MLBPA benefits. gaillimhConas tá tú? 22:27, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures

[edit]

As a Red Sox fan, I'm a little shocked that there currently no pictures of Red Sox players in the whole article. Three of the sixth winners of the AL final vote were Red Sox at the time. You have a picture of Damon, but he's wearing a Yankees uniform, a little odd considering he was elected in 2002 but didn't suit up for the yankees until 2005.

Also not sure if you mentioned that the final vote is now for the 32nd spot. Thanks, Pats Sox Princess 16:34, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Totally didn't see the pictures of Varitek or Okajima. But I still think Damon should be in a Sox uniform. And Nomar should be wearing a Dodgers uniform, not a Red Sox one (he was a member of the Dodgers when he was voted in). Pats Sox Princess 16:36, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the case of this table, I have to agree that a side-by-side format feels slightly more appropriate. The abbreviated one seems the most appropriate, since the fullone is completely overbearing. Maybe with centering the "experience" columns? Circeus 19:36, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Template:cleanup-colours on top of the page.

[edit]

I have decided to remove the template after reading through the guideline about the text colors to convey information. I then gave it a test at http://colorfilter.wickline.org/?j=1;t=q in which this paged passed all tests there. So therefore I am removing the template as its not an issue at all. I am assuming the problem may be with the highlighted names, but they were clear in all tests. Usually if a name needs highlight it's generally accepted to flag the name with a symbol and place a footnote right below the chart, This is only a note for improvement as clearly this is a guideline and the paged passed the test of Colorblindness Filters. "Featured"

[edit]

This is a featured list, but clearly doesn't meet the criteria any longer. I almost listed this for removal right now, but maybe we can improve it to keep it featured? – Muboshgu (talk) 21:41, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
