Edit war: BritainsDNA
[edit]It appears that there is an edit war over this section, even to the point of requesting deletion. Referenced articles won't be deleted over one section, especially if that section is referenced. I have raised this at WP:BLP for some independant viewpoints. Stephen! - I don't know the right way to handle this – but I have copied the following over from Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Alistair_Moffat. Maproom (talk) 20:11, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Agree with Dp76764 that the section is valid and could use some tweaking. There's a couple articles about Moffat's threats and academic freedom in The Saint, St Andrew's student newspaper, noted in the Nature piece. The fact that the university's academic senate concluded that its own rector (Moffat) was stifling academic debate is worth noting. The senate's conclusion is noted in the last two links.

- FYI The Saint published an article about the edit war on 18 May: Edit war erupts on Moffat’s Wikipedia page. Helen (talk) 08:49, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
I have made a minor edit to the BritainsDNA section (my first ever)- clearly the BBC have upheld Balding's complaint about more than two inaccuracies, and covered in detail the 'subsidy' claim http://www.thesaint-online.com/2014/03/complaint-about-alistair-moffat-interview-upheld-by-bbc/ However I think this section is missing various issues of relevance, which may have been unfairly removed during a previous edit war (see comment above from Helen). In particular I agree with Dp76764 regarding the criticism that Moffat was stifling public debate. This is both of public interest, and well documented. Furthermore the statement that emails between Moffat and Thomas/Balding have never been published is clearly untrue- Thomas' lab website at University College London have published all this correspondence https://www.ucl.ac.uk/mace-lab/genetic-ancestry/Correspondence/britainsDNA . Unfortunately as both an editor of this website at UCL, and a colleague of Thomas and Balding I would first like to disclose this conflict of interest before making further edits. - A company executive making inaccurate statements about its products and services is not remarkable. An academic seeking to stifle criticisms of those statements by other academics is remarkable. Maproom (talk) 13:51, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
I have added a recent peer-reviewed citation to support a general summary of the controversy ('The Rise and Fall of BritainsDNA: A Tale of Misleading Claims, Media Manipulation and Threats to Academic Freedom'). Once again I'd like to declare my conflict of interest as a co-author on this paper. Adrian Timpson

Awards
[edit]I can't find any evidence that Moffat won any awards during his tenure at STV. BAFTA conferred awards on two Lockerbie bombing documentaries, but the winners were the directors, not Moffat. I would like to completely remove these false assertions. Matuko 18:37, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
