[edit]With all due respect, there isnt a makuria king called "ali baba". And certainly not "Israel". I urge people to look at this text again, and who precedes and follows the king as his heir. [-213.93.31.49]
- Well, he was given as a king for that region of the Nile, which would make him a Makourian king. As early as the 9th century, there are sources claiming a Himyarite origin for the Makourian kings, allegedly by direct descent but possibly via the matrilineal inheritance they practiced.
- On the other hand, yes, it certainly seems more likely that he was an Arabized king of the Beja and just misattributed.
- Not sure what your problem with 'Israel' is, though: it's an attested, appropriate name. -LlywelynII (talk) 17:00, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
