Punch magazine
[edit]Punch in 1997 did publish allegations against Roberts, but there seems to be a desire to treat these as fact. Punch was owned by Mohammed Al Fayed who at the time was on a bit of an anti-Conservative kick and unlike the Punch that had ceased publication in 1992 was deliberately positioning itself between Private Eye and Scallywag. I also think that this dubiously sourced piece - which would certainly have failed any BLP test if that had been applicable, needs to be seen in the light which it was published and not treated as if it were reporting on a court case.

The Independent published this story in 1997 [1](Coachtripfan (talk) 13:29, 2 May 2013 (UTC))
- Yes, but they were simply a rehash of the Punch article. JASpencer (talk) 14:42, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Benjamin Roberts
[edit]It’s stated that Alfred Roberts’ father was Benjamin Ebenezer Roberts (1857–1925) from a Ringstead [Northamptonshire] family.
There are four ‘Benjamin Roberts’ listed on FreeBMD as being born in 1857: none of them were born in Northampton. They are listed as being born in Wigan, Burnley, Medway and Holywell, Flintshire,
Does anyone know which of these was Thatcher’s grandfather? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.254.20.91 (talk) 22:04, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
- None of those four. Benjamin Ebenezer Roberts was born on 28 Dec 1857 at Ringstead and his birth was registered in the March quarter of 1858. Ejdguiseley (talk) 17:22, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
