It's interesting that he earned so many Air Medals. I assume he received them prior to learning to fly helicopters, as he never flew them in combat (as far as I read in the article). Was his Air Medals based on maybe Observation aircraft during WW#2 and Korea?? Also, the Purple Heart story must be quite interesting for a man who spent all his time at HQ.MonsieurET (talk) 05:20, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like he received the Purple Heart in 1967, the year he died, so I assume the PH was for having a heart attack in a combat zone.
