Bring back long name at the start of the article
[edit]>:( 186.143.201.207 (talk) 23:31, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Other than being a novelty (or as others have put it, in the last few hours, "ruining the fun"), long names of the royalty are not usually included in the lead sections of their biographies. See, for instance, Infante Sebastião of Spain and Portugal, the father of Alfonso, whose long name is inserted, instead, in the corresponding infobox. The lead section introduces him only as "Dom Sebastian Gabriel de Borbón y Braganza", his most common name. The same happens in other Spanish royalty articles. For example: Alfonso, Prince of Asturias (1907–1938), introduced in the lead as "Alfonso, Prince of Asturias", then in the infobox mentioned as "Alfonso Pío Cristino Eduardo Francisco Guillermo Carlos Enrique Eugenio Fernando Antonio Venancio". You can check the corresponding categories and see that this is the common rule that applies in this kind of cases, and so I urge everyone who came here from a Twitter/X post to first take that into account, then starting to call me "snitch" or "party pooper". I've seen a lot of insults in these posts but I think that handling this in a civil well-mannered way is the best for everyone to be calm and happy. Hope you all have a good day. - In spite of my edits today seeming otherwise, I do actually agree that it works better in the infobox (or, as it is in this case, the notes), as otherwise the page becomes unwieldy to read. 185.178.71.138 (talk) 23:55, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- I agree the name should be in full, it states in the article that he was known for having a long name, so the fact they're not normally included isn't really equivalent here. -- NotCharizard 🗨 15:33, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
- It is not common (not even common sense) to put such a long name in the lead. Perhaps a solution could be creating a new section focusing only on his long name? Bedivere (talk) 12:20, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
