Bibliographic goldmine

[edit]

He includes a rather long "Selected Bibliography" of periodicals mentioning his art in the Biographical PDF on his website.--Pharos (talk) 03:53, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline

[edit]

Here is a timeline of where the article needs to be, in order to achieve featured article status in one month, and have the article eligible to be the main page featured article of the day:

--Aude (talk) 20:55, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The above editor's talk is unsigned--please sign talk on WP--good luck on getting main page with this article, just follow this "timeline" I guess.--Artiquities (talk) 04:00, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not signing. :/ If you would like to help with the article, that would be awesome! Right now, I'm not sure DYK is feasible. I'm trying to get hold of some books, which should help for expanding the article and giving more depth. --Aude (talk) 20:55, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The article was 2,695 bytes before my first edit, it's not ~19,000 bytes (though including lots of refs and links). I think it's 5x expansion and have nominated it with:
"Did you know that Alexis Rockman's mural Manifest Destiny, depicting Brooklyn in the year 5004, marked the opening of a new wing of the Brooklyn Museum?"
Feel free to add different suggestions here or tweak mine: [1] --Aude (talk) 23:09, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I tweaked the wording of the hook quite a bit. I came up with the above hook when I was rushed out the door and it wasn't worded so well. --Aude (talk) 00:28, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's best to skip nominating for good article, as the process can take a while. When writing featured articles, I normally skip GA, except that the review is helpful. I suggest spending a few more days on gathering material for the article and copyediting, then take it to peer review early next week. --Aude (talk) 21:44, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

I suggest that List of works by Alexis Rockman be merged here. There is no obvious reason for split.--Artiquities (talk) 04:03, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm following the example of List of works by Thomas Eakins. Though now, not sure I like doing things this way. What might work better is a list of "selected works" or better arranging things in the main article as "selected exhibitions" and if particular works are most notable, list them with the exhibition. What do you think? --Aude (talk) 20:55, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would focus on selected works. Like many 2-D artists, his work is extremely vast and varied, and I think it'd be better to focus on works in the collections of institutions and of notability. Missvain (talk) 03:37, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Areas Needing Attention?

[edit]
  • Are there some specific areas or aspects of the article that need work?
  • Also, is there a structure of sections and subsections in mind for the article? We could map out an initial structure on a user page or here on the talk page. Warrenking (talk) 22:06, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think help is especially needed on describing the styles and covering what the critics say (positive & negative). Also, copyediting help is needed, and really anything else you see that can be improved. I have not done much editing articles about artists, though have worked on architecture articles so there might be some parallel. I am definitely open to suggestions on an outline and sections to include. (right now, I'm putting in another ~45 min. of editing, then off for the evening. If I can get enough added to submit to WP:DYK, I will do it, but not sure I'll get there.) Cheers. --Aude (talk) 22:13, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Info needing verifying, fact-checking

[edit]
  • "Rockman also draws influence from Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam" - this was removed from the article. I assume there could be a problem with the statement, though it did come from a good source so think it might be worth putting back with some clarification (e.g. Matt Distel says ...). It references Distel, Matt (2007). Entangled Attachments. Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati. pp. 20–23. {{cite book}}: |work= ignored (help) --Aude (talk) 21:36, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the rest of the sentence, since it doesn't make sense without the part that was removed in [2]. The full text is there, in case someone decides to restore it. —Emufarmers(T/C) 22:07, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
