Neutrality?
[edit]The entire article seems to be written by an ardent admirer. Should we strive for more neutrality? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.10.200.6 (talk) 10:16, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- The text is quite disappointing and unencyclopedic. Even very minor remarks, e.g.
- in the context of Banach spaces, uniform amarts are the natural generalization of martingales
- besides their primary source nature are not inocuous and seem to have been crafted with the purpose of making Bellow's work look "very important", definitely not the role of an encyclopedia. The article clearly suggests a connection between Bourgain working on a problem of Bellow and Bourgain recieving the Fields medal, again not an encyclopedia's task regardless of whether it is truth, half-truth or imaginary (I have no idea). This is an article on Bellow, not on Bourgain, and Bourgain's achievements or awards should not be construed or listed as a merit of Bellow.
- The history of the creator and main contributor to the article shows that (s)he has made no edits in any other Wikipedia article. And my question is- honestly, does Alexandra Bellow need this embarrassment? Her work is relevant enough to deserve a non-vanity-press article. --93.156.36.12 (talk) 21:26, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
- Indeed this article is a joke. The scientific importance of Bellow is several orders of magnitude lower than what the writer seems to think. The personal life items are just not relevant. (I had to laugh out loud at the line specifying that one of her husbands got a Nobel price *during this marriage* [sic]). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.178.195.173 (talk) 17:03, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
- Given the comments above, would someone please initiate the process for deletion of this article? I tried but my proposal was removed (I likely had not done it properly). What justifies Bellow's notability? There is none in mathematics. She does not have any of the indicator's, e.g. : major prizes, invitation to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians, etc.; she has never published a paper in a top journal (like Annals of Math, JAMS, Inventiones, etc.); and as you can easily check, her work is not cited much. This page is one of the most biased ones I have seen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.184.176.43 (talk) 14:16, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
- I have initiated a deletion discussion as you request: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alexandra Bellow. Feel free to comment there, but please identify yourself as the anonymous editor who requested deletion, to avoid confusion. Espresso Addict (talk) 15:17, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
- I am the anonymous editor who requested deletion. Thank you for initiating the discussion. It seems like people want to "keep". I do feel that such detailed discussion of her work, more discussion than 90% of
mathematicians' Wikipedia pages I've seen, is not appropriate. The importance of Bellow's work is vastly overblown on this page. Does anyone here think that this page, with a very detailed CV included, was not created by Bellow? This seems to degrade the entire process. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.184.176.43 (talk) 23:41, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
