Yahoo Sports spells his name "Álex Ríos," with an accent in both names. This would fit Spanish pronunciation rules. On the other hand, he was born in the U.S., and, according to us, his full first name is "Alexis." Does anyone know for sure whether the "A" should have an accent? -- Mwalcoff22:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty sure it doesn't need it. The first syllable is always stressed unless there is an accent on subsequent syllables, so accenting the first A is redundant and incorrect. Why Yahoo insists on doing this is beyond me. Evan Reyes (talk) 20:08, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Despite his full name being Alexis Rios, I think the name of the page should be Alex Rios. I think he used to go by Alexis but I think he has just shorten it to Alex now. -Street2004:52, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Its fine", is a great argument for completing the move without consensus or discussion, however we haven't reached the matter at hand here. As far as arguments go, the obvious one should be how did you determine "Alex" is more common than "Alexis" before blindly moving, because some announcer called him so? Well, "Alexis" is used a lot more commonly in the media that has been covering his career years before he was a MLB player, as a matter of fact its rare seeing the nickname "Alex" in these newspapers. Want an recent example? here is an article from El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico's leading newspaper, written four days ago. As you can see here lies the point, there is no clear "common name", thus there shouldn't be undiscussed moves. - Caribbean~H.Q.20:27, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a good reason to have this section? It seems awfully unencyclopedic. Perhaps those items, if people think they're noteworthy, could go into other sections.CSHunt68 (talk) 23:08, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
