This article seems very scattered and strongly anti-Padilla. I'd like to see more plain-jane biographical data and some more pro-Padilla information. Also, so many inline links (not in citation form) are frowned upon. Thanks. jengod 20:37, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Stuff
Why are we
- 1) listing the endorsements that Padilla didn't get?
- 2) using blogs as sources?
Neither seem appropriate. -Will Beback 23:19, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Unless I hear a defense of this material I'll remove it. -Will Beback 22:38, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. Also, 71.116.252.34, would you please give the reason for removing sections of the article?
- One of the cited sources is the LA Times, which doesn't seem to keep online backlogs. I have found other sources, but only through Google's cache. So, as of now, I'm not reverting back until I (or someone else) can find a proper cite. Landeyda 04:43, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Why Are His Controversies, Votes & Positions Being Erased?
DiFi's article Is a perfect example of an elected official's page that shows all the sides of an elected official. Her page addresses some of conflictive votes she's taken and some favorable things she's done throughout her career. In addition, her page made news for that reason...several people within the Capitol didn't like it the information being posted, for obvious reasons. Censorship in an open source site because we dare to point out what the traditional news media won't, and obviously this elected official's City website? Point of information: Several of those IP's cleaning out the more critical things are from City of Los Angeles addresses.
Is Padilla's ethics track record not worthy of being noted in his political career? I beg to differ.
- Thanks for discussing the matter. We should include all significant points of view about every subject of a Wikipedia article. However Feinstein has much more media coverage than Padilla, so they are not perfectly comparable. One of our core policies is Wikipedia:Verifiability. Its companion policy is Wikipedia:Reliable sources. These assertions about Padilla need to have reliable sources. Blogs do not count. LAT, Daily News, etc, are perfectly respectable sources which cover the city council. Please find sources of that type to substantiate the material you'd like to add. Thanks -Will Beback 23:05, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
To my surprise...
Here I am, randomly typing in names of people I know, and I get an idea to type my name in, and look what I find. Good article, though I wish it was about me, and not this other Alex Padilla. --CanesOL79 05:24, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Awards and Recognition
Is it just me, or does the Awards section really matter? I mean, is it relevant that Alex won the "Mobile Home Manufactures Legislator of the Year" award? This section, just like the City Council Service section seems to have been written by one of his staff members, or a fan. ZooCrewMan (talk) 04:50, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, this section was simply copied and pasted directly from his State Senate website...
[1] Thoughts? ZooCrewMan (talk) 05:04, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- That would be a possible copyright violation and should be removed immediately. --Nuujinn (talk) 09:25, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
City Council Service
Is it just me, or does this section sound like it was lifted from a campaign mailer?
Anyone have any thoughts on if this is keeping with the neutral position that Wikipedia strives for?
- It's not neutral and much of this is unsourced and should go. --Nuujinn (talk) 00:54, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
I second that one. If laws are going to be described, the name or number of the law should be used. Saying, "the law that did this and that" is totally useless. 2602:30A:2EB2:EA00:8C28:4EEA:CFA0:AD73 (talk) 10:46, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
Please help! Likely future California Secretary of State!
With Leland Yee's arrest 3/26/2014, Mr. Padilla will likely be the California Secretary of State since there is no time for stronger candidates to join in. This page is well below par for comprehensiveness, accuracy, and relevancy for a post of such importance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.203.80.125 (talk) 20:31, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
Campaign Puffery
Most of this piece sounds to me like campaign material and should be excised immediately.76.102.202.209 (talk) 20:43, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Source links
The first source link seems to be wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:9200:15C:1C:5FC2:405A:CF85 (talk) 18:12, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
Sworn in on the 20th?
https://edition.cnn.com/2021/01/17/politics/kamala-harris-resigns-senate/index.html
"In a press call, he told reporters he would likely be sworn in himself on Wednesday." 101090ABC (talk) 17:29, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- When he's sworn in, it will be reported on. Schazjmd (talk) 17:54, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- Exactly. Previously the article stated he was to become senator on the 18th, now it's changed to "January 2021". All's good. 101090ABC (talk) 18:22, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
When Padilla will be sworn in
There seems to be an edit war going on, and revert after revert is probably the most ineffective way to solve a problem. The date is TO BE DETERMINED. [2] "it’s unclear when Padilla will take the oath of office this week, or whether it will be administered by Harris."; [3] "An aide close to Harris said that it is unlikely Padilla would be sworn in on Monday."; [4] "Newsom has already named Alex Padilla, California's secretary of state, to fill Harris' seat. In a press call, he told reporters he would likely be sworn in himself on Wednesday.". Please refrain from changing the date as we do not have a crystal ball. Nojus R (talk) 05:47, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- I reverted my early edits because he is not sworn in yet. My mistake. Election Tron (talk) 18:48, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- If there is any more of that edit warring, I'll lock the page. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:06, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 00:44, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- Done The official Senate portrait is now in use. ― Tartan357 Talk 01:11, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- It does not appear to be a Senate portrait, rather a still from his DNC speech in August 2020. Connormah (talk) 21:49, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
Tenure
Please would someone insert information on the the length of his term of office as Senator, ie when it will terminate (and why). Thank you. Tommyboy 06:22, 22 January 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tom Beaton (talk • contribs)
- He is serving the remaining two years of Kamala Harris's term, so his term in the Senate will conclude in January 2023.[5] -- MelanieN (talk) 21:56, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- I added it to the article. Thanks for the suggestion. -- MelanieN (talk) 22:01, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

31st Secretary of State of California
hi all, i dont really have time to learn how to edit anything in here, so whoever picks this up, pls correct that this politician was neither the 30th or 32nd Secretary of State of California, it is confirmed on a Government source that he was the 31st. https://www.sos.ca.gov/administration/news-releases-and-advisories/2015-news-releases-and-advisories/governor-brown-swears-alex-padilla-californias-31st-secretary-state thanks br BritneyRopetush (talk) 22:41, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Inaccurate statement?
"...is an American politician serving as the senior United States senator from California since 2021." He has only been the senior Senator since September 29, 2023. While this is stated later, the initial sentence seems inaccurate. Kk.urban (talk) 18:52, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
