To supporters of Mr. Garcia, re recent edits

Having an article on Wikipedia about oneself is not necessarily as desirable as one might initially think. It's true that a favorable article about a subject might help his career, of course. But it's also true that it can provide a permanent reminder to the world of any misdeeds. As many people have discovered to their dismay, one absolutely cannot control what "sticks" in an article about oneself. More specifically, the NY Times article of 19 November 2003, documenting Mr. Garcia's trouble with the law is what our policies here call a "reliable source". It cannot be excluded from any article about him that exists here. Sure, the information can be temporarily deleted, and replaced with laudatory fluff, but some uninvolved editor is certain to come by before too long, notice its exclusion, remove the fluff, and re-add the reliably-sourced material.

All that said, the only viable alternative to having all reliably-sourced information about oneself included on Wikipedia is to not have an article about oneself on Wikipedia at all. I don't know what the usual standards are for including articles here about chefs, but a quick search for online sources about Mr. Garcia leads me to believe that he's not "notable" according to Wikipedia's somewhat idiosyncratic use of that word, and thus does not merit an article here at all. If Mr. Garcia's supporters would prefer that alternative, they can nominate this article for deletion via one of the multiple deletion processes we have available here. There's no guarantee that initiating one of these processes will result in the desired outcome, but it's my opinion that doing so probably would in this case, probably would result in the article's deletion, if it were based on an assertion that Mr. Garcia fails to rise to the rather stringent "notability" standards Wikipedia requires. If Mr. Garcia's supporters want to pursue this avenue, and are unsure about how to proceed, it would be beneficial for them to review Wikipedia:Guide_to_deletion, and/or to ask at the help desk what the best way would be to initiate a deletion process for this article.

As an alternative to contacting the help desk, I will also mention that my e-mail function here is enabled, and that I would be willing to provide appropriate guidance or assistance, via e-mail, to anyone who also thinks Mr. Garcia fails to meet Wikipedia's standards for inclusion, such as "notability", in particular. I will absolutely not do anything that conflicts in any way with any of Wikipedia's policies; my only interest in making this offer of assistance is in improving the encyclopedia and protecting its integrity. But I also realize that Wikipedia's policies can be intimidating and difficult to navigate for newcomers here, and for that reason, I am willing to offer my assistance. I'm sure I need hardly reiterate the point so specifically, but the least suggestion or offer of any benefit to me personally for providing such assistance would be offensive in the extreme, and would result in my immediate cessation of any communication and assistance.

To repeat, however, if the article exists at all, it must include the NY Times information and reference; these cannot be excluded under Wikipedia policies. A brief update: Since several users have now found additional sources and added those refs to the article since I wrote the above, I'd have to look much more carefully at the question of whether Mr. Garcia meets Wikipedia's "notability" standards before I could confidently state an opinion at this point.
