The result of the move request was: All pages moved. As for WP:NCDAB, example #1 clearly applies. We should avoid parentheses whenever possible, as it is here, by using a more complete title. -- Hadal (talk) 05:26, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

– Conforming with naming convention (Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(fauna)#Capitalisation_of_common_names_of_groups). The mayor of Yurp (talk) 15:19, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Definitely. Steven Walling 23:56, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support requested move. Capitalization of "cattle" is inconsistent with similar articles of domestic breeds. ExRat (talk) 11:21, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. I agree that the existing titles (of the form "Xx Cattle") do not conform to the naming convention. However, I don't think the proposed replacements ("Xx cattle") do either. Should they not generally be of the form "Xx", with "cattle" in brackets and only where needed for disambiguation? These breeds are normally called "the Ukrainian Grey", "the Mertolenga", "the Preta" etc. Therefore the articles should surely be Ukrainian Grey, Mertolenga etc, or where there is another article with that title, Simmental (cattle) etc. If there are any where the word "cattle" is always used, the proposed form would indeed be more appropriate. For example, it may be that the Ushuaia wild cattle type (not actually included in the list) is always called that, never just "the Ushuaia". Also, if there are any where the word "Cattle" forms a necessary and consistent part of the breed name, then the "Xx Cattle" form would remain appropriate, as for example happens with the American Quarter Horse and the Australian Cattle Dog. You make a very valid point about other species, Richard New Forest, but let's concentrate on the cattle for now. Regarding whether to have the "cattle" in brackets or not, I'd go for whatever standard came first, just to simplify the matter. The mayor of Yurp (talk) 16:12, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The other species are just examples: it would apply in exactly the same way for cattle, but only where "Cattle" is part of the breed name. Otherwise WP:NCDAB covers this ground: I'm not really sure if this case is equivalent to the situation described there in para 1 or that in para 2. If 1, "Xx cattle" would be acceptable; if 2, "Xx (cattle)" would be the way to go as above. Richard New Forest (talk) 20:02, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, obviously there is a difference between the people who work with them every day, calling them Jerseys (for example), rather than "Jersey cattle", and the breeders' associations who call them "Jersey Cattle" on their newsletters and websites. What we need here is a decision conforming with the standards of Wikipedia, three other editors agree with my proposal on the cattle issue, but maybe we should seek an opinion from higher up about other species. Mind you, it might end up being a lot of work to deal with. The mayor of Yurp (talk) 21:03, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
