Circle Line platforms

"Platforms 1 and 4 at Aldgate are the only platforms on the network to be served exclusively by the Circle Line. All other Circle Line platforms are shared by the District, Metropolitan and/or Hammersmith & City Lines."

Platform 4 is actually signed as a Circle and Metropolitan Line platform. However, I think this is just because the line north of Aldgate is drawn that way on the map, and not because Metropolitan Line trains actually stop there. Any Metropolitan Line train departing from Platform 4 would need to enter either from the south as a Circle Line train (unlikely, as the lines are normally serviced by different stock) or from the north as a Metropolitan Line train (running into a through platform in the "wrong" direction, and blocking the Circle Line during turnaround). I can't believe this ever happens in normal service, so I'm claiming that Platform 4 is an exclusive Circle Line platform. Mtford 19:28, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

And now I come to think of it, platform 2 at Edgware Road is supposed to be Circle Line only, though I don't think this always happens in practice, so I think it probably shouldn't be considered as a purely Circle Line platformFrinton100 (talk) 00:24, 31 July 2014 (UTC).

@Frinton100: Did you realise that you were commenting on a thread that was raised almost seven years ago, and that the operation of the Circle line at Edgware Road has changed since then? Anyway, the layout at Gloucester Road is such that both Circle and District trains may use platform 2; I have been there waiting for a westbound Circle train in the evening peak, and had to wait for four District trains (two Ealing Broadway, one each Wimbledon and Richmond) to arrive first - two each on platforms 1 & 2. As for Edgware Road, all four platforms may be used by Circle and H&C services, but the layout is such that westbound trains cannot arrive at platforms 1 or 2, nor depart from platform 1; and eastbound trains cannot arrive at nor depart from platform 4. This restricts terminating District trains to platforms 2 & 3, but no platform is exclusively for the Circle line. --Redrose64 (talk) 07:28, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

@Redrose64: Yes, I did realise it was 7 years old, but just felt I should add a little explanation. As for Edgware Rd, I was referring specifically to the new operations, and was well aware that in 2007 things were different so it was no criticism of the previous editor, and as you'll see I am of the view that Edgware Rd platform 2 is not Circle line only, but just wanted to prevent any "what about Edgware Rd" comments. Personally, I have never seen a District train at Gloucester Rd platform 2 in recent years, it is certainly signed as a Circle Line only platform, so if District trains do stop I would suggest it is not a regular service pattern, like non-Circle line trains using the outer platforms at Aldgate.Frinton100 (talk) 18:37, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

The info box to the right states: 18 November 1878 Opened.

But the section under History states: The station was opened on 18 November 1876...

'History' section

"The route first proposed ran south from Moorgate to Cannon Street, but this was soon amended to the present alignment to allow connection with three additional termini.." What route? Which railway is being spoken of? Harfarhs (talk) 14:48, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
