Is 'theorized' the right word? 'Posited', 'suggested', 'proposed'?

'Theory' is often mistakenly used for the idea of an 'hypothesis', which word might be defined as 'an educated guess, yet to be proved'. 210.84.47.76 (talk) 23:04, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"but"?

I'm confused by "but" used in "David Brodbeck has theorized ... that Dietrich is the most likely author ..., but Malcolm MacDonald ... has maintained that ... Dietrich remains the more likely candidate". They are agreeing, so "but", which means contrast, is wrong. Or, is one of the "Dietrich"'s a misprint for "Brahms"?
