Ocean View Elementary School (Albany ,California) talk page (now a redirect)
Note: If somebody wishes to re-create this article please review Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oceanview Elementary School, Albany, California.
As explained there, this article was originally created as a fictional "Oceanview Elementary School, Clovis, California". Because, it was proven not to exist, people voted to delete. Then, at the last minute, the creator of the fictional clovis school, changed the title to "Oceanview Elementary School, Albany, California" and changed all the key data to match with a real school. Even the grades taught were changed. So, if somebody wishes to create a new article (with entirely new content), please know people rejected the idea of a fake school, but may welcome an article on a real one. Generally, in wikipedia, the vast majority of articles about *real* schools are kept. --rob 12:13, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
Note: this is the real school. --rob 14:22, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
Added: The fake school was "K-8", the real one is "K-5". In the same revision that saw the number of grades drop, the number of students went up from 243 to 435. --rob 23:32, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Text removed
I took out the following text:
- Oceanview was established in 1937 and the school building itself was built as a Works Progress Administration project. Currently Oceanview is a California Distinguished School.
Now, I think the above is probably true, but it's not on the school's web site (which is the sole source linked to in the article), and I can't verify it. If a source can be cited, please put it back. --rob 01:14, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
Update: It turns out the school was built in 1999. [1] Naturally, that also means the stuff about a "Works Progress Administration project" was also false, since that was disbanded in WWII. --rob 03:45, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
Note: The old text about 1937 and the WPA was leftover from the hoax article. So, now, essentially every piece of the hoax article, has been removed, and what's left can be verified with the two external links in the article now. --rob 03:54, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
I think I have an idea where the false Works Progress Administration (WPA) story might have come from. There is an "Ocean View Elementary School" (K-5) in Norfolk, Virginia. It was built in March 10, 1939 with funding by the similiar sounding Public Works Administration (PWA). Of course, it's next to a different ocean and probably not a "California Distinguished School" as the old version mentioned. Anyway, I think the one in Virginia probably has an interesting history, that probably would make a good article. So, this link might be a helpful start in making an interesting article. --rob 22:44, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
I went ahead and made Ocean View Elementary School (Norfolk, Virginia), which I mentioned above, as it has quite an interesting history. --rob 22:02, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
About the name
The official name of the school is "Ocean View Elementary School", with a separate "Ocean" and "View". This is used in their web site. Occassionally, there are other references to it as one word, but those seem to be unofficial. --rob 02:00, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
I put in mention of MacGregor High School, although the article is principally about the elem still. Ideally MacGregor High School needs its own article, but that will come when sufficient material exists; so I thought its better here, than just making a substub. --Rob 05:14, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Good decision; the Ocean View article is more thorough than any of the other stub Albany elementary school articles. I agree that ideally MacGregor would have its own article. — Emiellaiendiay 08:12, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
