Koreatown cat
[edit]It strikes me that using this cat on a neighbourhood where the majority of the population is clearly Hispanic, and where Koreans are only one of several ethnicities, is much like placing the cat on Southie or Brooklyn. It belongs on a separate article on Albany Park's Koreatown, not on the whole neighbourhood. I realize there's no Category:Hispanic neighbourhoods in the United States or similar for the other ethnic groups named, though perhaps there should be, as appropriate; or not, otherwise Category:Chicago neighbourhoods with large Polish populations etc or Category:Scandinavian enclaves in Seattle would be called for. Labelling a whole community a a Koreatown does a disservice to non-Koreans in that neighbourhood. Fine, again, ifthere were a separate article as there is for Koreatown, Los Angeles or Koreatown, Manhattan. Also re whoever it was that said there was a Koreatown exit sign on I-90, a picture of that would dress up the section (or a separate article) quite nicely. The former priority-of-place of the Korean commercial district section, however, was all too typical of the behaviour of Korean commercial promoters, who seem to think their existence is more important than anything else or anyone else; it's only a neighbourhood of Albany Park, not the whole place, so I moved it into the neighbourhood section once it was restored; but it strikes me that corresponding sections on other-ethnic-groups' commercial districts in this area are also called for.Skookum1 (talk) 13:54, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Go for it. Personally, I don't see that category as necessarily referring to the whole article, just the subsection within it. But yes, it is a very diverse neighborhood. Someone should also get busy and address the Middle Eastern shopping district around Lawrence and Kimball. Crypticfirefly (talk) 04:48, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Most diverse area / zip code
[edit]I've seen lots of web articles that suggest that Albany Park or zip code 60625 is "the most" or "among the most" diverse areas in the country, but I've never seen a reference to this or what constitutes "diverse".--FSantoro (talk) 09:33, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
Recent Edits
[edit]I am totally new to editing, and really did not read the directions--I guess I am supposed to discuss changes here--though no one seems to commenting much.
I found several things that were questionable in this article--I changed what I could. I grew up in North Park and went to Peterson, Von, Northwestern, studied a lot of chicago history and was a docent for the Architecture Foundation.
I think the website http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org is a great site and talks about each neighborhood. I refer to it for such things as where what boundry is, where what neighborhood, is, etc. It is put up by the Ch. Historical society and the Newbery Library
Unfortuneatly, I tried to reference it in the article, but I botched it up--I cannot understand how to add it, and it should be added
The site is clear on the bounderies--which I changed in this article, as the North boundry of albany park is not Bryn Mawr. Several of the schools listed are not in Albany Park, ie my grammer school, Peterson, and Amundson High....I don't think several others are either, but I do not have time to check.
I am not sure about the 60625 thing, as someone else mentioned. Things have changed a lot since I lived there in the 70's and early 80's, but calling it the most diverse zip code in the nation...it should be supported or cut.
Ravesnwood Manor was also listed as "part" of albany park in the piece--I did cut it, as it isn't--technically it is part Of Lincoln Square (see the website noted above) also, Rod lives in Ravenswood, not albany park, so I took that line out. I am sorry if I did a no-no, but I really recommend folks check the website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Weinssh (talk • contribs) 03:04, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
editing
[edit]This article is wrong, and I'm too inexperienced and lazy to figure out how to correct it. This article says Mayfair (Kilbourn south of lawerence is part of Albany Park - According to the Official CityofChicago.org website maps Mayfair is part of Irving Park. This needs to be corrected. someone please - help other lost individuals like me get correct info, bad info is worse than no info. CityofChicago.org is truly an undisputable source dont you think?
