Can someone provide me a good explanation as to why we're continuing to refer to Elmendorf Air Force Base? As I see it, Elmendorf ceased to exist as a separate entity and became a component of JBER over five years ago. It appears we're confusing/misleading readers by referring to a defunct entity in a present-day context as often as we have recently, all the while paying no mind to the problem it may create. It's possible that we could have a common name versus official name conflict here, which would be better resolved elsewhere. The problem is, I haven't been to Anchorage recently, so I don't know what is common usage here. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 03:41, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- It's referred to as such because that's what's on the Alaska Wing's official address taken from their website. I referred to it as such because that's where the subject of the article claims to be located via their own mailing and shipping addresses. Et0048 (talk) 06:26, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- There lots of outdated information such as that floating around out there. Your explanation sounds plausible, but I've seen instances of addresses containing "JBER, AK 99506", so I would question whether the post office serving that ZIP code is still called "Elmendorf" or if it's been renamed. I do thank you for your response, but unfortunately, it left open the question of common versus official name. Notice how quickly Anchorage Daily News was moved to Alaska Dispatch News and how quickly Mount McKinley was moved to Denali based on mere announcements. The only reason to keep referring to "Elmendorf Air Force Base" for anything related to the present day is if that term is still in common usage. A query to WP Milhist may be in order here, but I don't know if I have that time right now. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 07:35, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
