Call My Life

Alaska is featured on Call My Life, if the discography section should be updated. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:11, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Alaska and Jeremy, Amethyst Journey

I've redirected Alaska and Jeremy and Amethyst Journey to this article for now. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:21, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Name origin?

What's the origin of his drag name? It would be a good addition to the article if anyone knows. --98.246.156.76 (talk) 01:05, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

"Honard's drag name is derived from Alaskan Thunderfuck, a strain of marijuana." Burnberrytree (talk) 05:12, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Removal of promotional material

I'm going to remove promotional material and reword some awkward paragraphs etc. Geordie (talk) 22:32, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

I'm commenting here because there seems to be a potential edit war brewing. Geordie (talk) 22:36, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

Further to avoiding an edit war: I made a couple edits, one correcting minor style issues, the other removing six duplicate references.Geordie (talk) 07:22, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

User:Alaska911 appears to be a conflict-of-interest editor treating Wikipedia like a promotional vehicle. If this editor does not join other editors on this talk page to work out issues concerning their edits, an admin will be asked to intervene and possibly impose a topic ban on this editor. This editor has not responded to concerns raised on their own talk page.--Tenebrae (talk) 22:29, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
Their edits were also filled with non-RS cites such as wikia and Reddit. --Tenebrae (talk) 22:38, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
I have  tried to engage Alaska911 in a discussion for two days, to no avail. If they haven't responded on this talk page within 24 hours of their second major reversion, I will restore the changes I (and Tenebrae) made on 2017-11-13 and 2017-11-15. --Geordie (talk) 20:24, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Vandalism

There is an editor named Tenebrae and it keeps reverting my edits which are actually constructive and now it is saying that I am making disruptive edits and I shouls be banned but honestly it should be banned since all that I'm doing is trying to keep this article notable and all that he is doing is trying to start an edit war. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alaska911 (talkcontribs) 00:33, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

This administrator isn't sure that either editor is acting in bad faith. Both parties should discuss the situation here. —C.Fred (talk) 00:39, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
That said… @Alaska911: Given your username, please clarify your relationship to the subject of the article and make any necessary disclosures (including potentially a paid-editing disclosure). —C.Fred (talk) 00:40, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
The editor Alaska911 reverted in one fell swoop many corrections of punctuation, grammar, and style, rewording of awkward sentences and paragraphs, and removal of irrelevant, non-notable, and unsourced material.
When this was in turn reversed approximately 24 hours later--and after an invitation to communicate on the article's talk page was declined--Alaska911 immediately reverted it again.
In addition Alaska911 insisted that any changes to the article (referred to as "vandalism") first be submitted for approval on their talk page.
Also, Alaska911 has not responded to assertions they are a SPA and in COI, both of which on the face of it seem to be the case.
Geordie (talk) 03:23, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
Plus, Alaska911 has descended to name-calling in edit summaries.Geordie (talk) 03:44, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
...and they're using threatening language towards other editors:
"how about YOU take it to the talk page dumby or else your gonna get reported because I know a LOTS of admins that can do that for me...."
Geordie (talk) 19:41, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Get the article up to 433 references

I would really like for anyone to help me get this article to 433 references because Alaska Thunderf*ck is identified as a lengendary icon and she needs more attention so that’s why I’m gonna make a discography article about her and then start making articles about other related things from Thunderf*ck! — Preceding unsigned comment added by LetsDoDrag253 (talkcontribs) 00:23, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

@LetsDoDrag253: First, why 433 specifically? Also, I don't think any Wikipedia article has 433 footnotes. Second, it sounds as if you intend to use Wikipedia for promotional purposes. if you're a publicist or otherwise connected to Alaska, this is considered conflict of interest and needs to be disclosed. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:46, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
One last thing--don't forget to sign your talk page posts.:) Geordie (talk) 01:02, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
@Tenebrae: Actually there is many articles that have 400-something footnotes take Beyoncé and Rihanna for a change and by the way I am very close with Justin and she also told me that she is a multi-platinum artist other than RuPaul, William Belli, Adore Delano, Sharon Needles and many other drag queen musicians and I really want to build the LGBT community more by updgrading numerous articles of LGBT people so PLEASE do this for me and get as many footnotes on the article as you can and make sure it doesn’t include sources like Reddit or a url for a fake Discogs record, thank you! --LetsDoDrag253 (talk) 08:09, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
I stand corrected re: Beyoncé and Rihanna. I would suggest, for WP:COI reasons, that as a friend of the subject you not make any edits on this page without discussing them here first and gaining a consensus with other editors. --Tenebrae (talk) 20:07, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
@LetsDoDrag253 Wikipedia has a quality over quantity policy when it comes to sourcing - and there are even some items that don't require sourcing. If Alaska is that notable, it should be easy for any editor to find reliable third-party news sources. I am in agreement w/Tenebrae re: potential conflict of interest on this article, but we could always use help around here, so even if you are too close to the subject, there are plenty of other articles that may interest you. Just familiarize yourself with more of the rules and you'll see less revisions of your work. Cheers, from non-admin LovelyLillith (talk) 09:58, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Exactly. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that summarizes reliable published sources - we can't cite user-generated pages or personal conversations, particularly when it comes to information about living people. Strongly suggest you review our BLP policy. Nikkimaria (talk) 17:30, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Check references

I've been trying to do cleanup on the references, because it seems like half of the time I examine one for validity, the link doesn't work, is not a reliable source, is deliberately forged, or has other issues. The legit refs need to be formatted correctly. If anyone gets a chance, please follow the sources to make sure erroneous info is not being introduced. LovelyLillith (talk) 18:18, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

That's why I wanted you to get the article up to 433 references and I decided to add in dead links to fill it up to 100 because their wasn't much references to see on Google so I decided to add in the dead links and I am really sorry for doing that but I was REALLY desperate for a hundred references so i tried to find way to get it up to their but PELASE forgive me and still continue to help me get this article up to a hundred references by adding 1-4 references to every single note. Goalsmini (talk) 00:19, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
User:Goalsmini has turned out to be a notorious sockpuppet who has been attempting to turn this into a promotional page under numerous socks. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MrWriter245, and let us keep an eye out for similar socks going forward. Good job, User:LovelyLillith. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:03, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Tag

Can someone clarify why this tag appears at the top of the article? "This article possibly contains inappropriate or misinterpreted citations that do not verify the text." Thanks. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:40, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Going through the edit history it seems LovelyLillith added it, in reference to a since-removed source about Nicki Minaj used to describe Alaska's musical genre as "hip hop". [1] Umimmak (talk) 19:19, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
I added it due to a since-banned sockpuppet user who was adding deliberately fabricated references in abundance to reach a specific number (see earlier discussions). I found so many incorrect entries that I asked for assistance in reading ALL the references to make sure the remaining references were legitimate. If all of the refs have been checked, the tag may be removed. LovelyLillith (talk) 12:56, 23 June 2018 (UTC)

Drag mother: Chi Chi LaRue or Jer Ber Jones

Who is Alaska's drag mother? Alaska has tweeted, "My drag mother is Jer Ber Jones," but Chi Chi LaRue has also tweeted that Alaska is her drag daughter. Clarification must be made (because of stylistic influences under "Artistry" section). Burnberrytree (talk) 06:47, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Female Trouble references

Thunderfuck seems to have referenced Female Trouble's Cha-Cha Heels line in the runway for Drama Queens and Chiclet Fryer/Susan Walsh as inspiration for her Super Troopers outfit. Can anyone find a reference for these? It would be great under artistry to further explain the influences from Divine and John Waters. Burnberrytree (talk) 16:52, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Drag mother, drag daughter

What do "drag mother" and "drag daughter" mean? It's probably obvious to people in or close to the drag and other trans communities, but it's clear as mud to most readers. The article needs definitions.

There is a good (I suppose) and detailed discussion on Yahoo Answers,[1]. The "Ithaca student paper" cited on the subject is 404 (the answer is 10 years old), but is on archive.org.[2] Unfortunately, as a student paper it is probably not considered a reliable source, and I'm pretty sure the Yahoo Answer isn't one either.

  • A "drag mother" is an already-working drag queen who takes a newbie under her wing and mentors her and shows her the ropes, and the newbie/mentee is the "drag daughter". It's really not much more complicated than that. Bearcat (talk) 02:30, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Him/Her

Aologies but the references throughout the article are mixed. The main body refers to Alaska as "She" or "Her" however the filmogrpahy, discography etc shows as "Himself". I've looked at a few other drag queens and it further muddies the water. Should the filmography and discography reflect the rest of the article and be shown as "Herself" ?Rhysy54 (talk) 20:39, 14 June 2017 (UTC)

I assumed in articles that deal with drag queens you typically use female pronouns, so I guess. --Aleccat 21:17, 15 June 2017 (UTC)
It all depends on whether you're talking about Justin Honard the (male) person, or Alaska Thunderfuck the (female) character. Bearcat (talk) 00:09, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Source re: Billboard charts

The 2016 article, Alaska Thunderfuck's Most Memorable Moments by Madison Moore is not present on Thought Catalog, nor does it appear to be archived anywhere else. The other Madison Moore article cited is still live on the same site. Absurdist1968 (talk) 05:49, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Reminder to add new song: ROY G BIV BBT

For discography section: ROY G BIV BBT ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:59, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Citations

This article's citations are very messy. Seeing as this article regards someone American, the dates should be month date, year. Also, several of this article's citations incorrectly use the publisher section, and even are unreliable. --Aleccat 22:32, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

It looks like this, and other, drag queen articles are once again veering into self-promotional linkspam territory. I’ve been checking and removing some of the “reference” links and care should be taken to watch for sockpuppetry - it’s happened before. LovelyLillith (talk) 05:04, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

WOWIE

Resolved

Please remove the WOWIE Awards from the 'Awards and nominations' table. The "awards" are presented by the production company World of Wonder and are therefore not really independent or particularly notable. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:02, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Marking as resolved. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:31, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

@Cornmazes I added some comments. Brachy08 (Talk) 01:00, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! Apologies, but what does “FN” mean? Additionally, how can the COPYVIO situation be remedied? Cornmazes (talk) 01:26, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
I would not mind the COPYVIO situation, as it is a quotation. FN is short for quotation Brachy08 (Talk) 01:31, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks again! Sorry for all these questions, this is my first attempt at one of these. What can I do to fix this issue? Cornmazes (talk) 02:51, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
You can try finding better sources. Brachy08 (Talk) 02:52, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
I mean, sources are the hardest of them all, so it’s understandable. Brachy08 (Talk) 02:52, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Okay! This refers to the first ten citations, correct? Just want to double-check before I go off reference hunting. Cornmazes (talk) 04:08, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
yes. Brachy08 (Talk) 04:08, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
@Another Believer would you mind assisting me a bit when you have the chance, please? I want to let Brachy breathe, lol Cornmazes (talk) 04:11, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
(finally, someone does not add an extra n) Brachy08 (Talk) 04:12, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Greetings Wikipedian, my name is Brachy0008 from the planet Glametron. What's yours? Now, I've come along way to be here tonight so lets get our greetings and salutations out of the way right now, shall We? Hieeee! Oh, I don't know about you Miss Cornmazes but I feel so much yummier. Now, there is this Good Article review has recently come to my intention. That we need to discuss right now, is that okay with you, honey?

@Brachy0008: Iconic! Best GA review start ever! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:06, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
This is so iconic! Should the citations in the lead be placed somewhere else, or simply removed? Cornmazes (talk) 19:12, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Placed somewhere else. Brachy08 (Talk) 00:33, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
 Done :) Cornmazes (talk) 20:50, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! Brachy08 (Talk) 00:33, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Overalls

By the looks of it, it would be an insta-fail for me. However, I’ll let you improve it, I’ll be there churning up suggestions to improve, because I am nice (and red for filth [pun])

Manual of Style

Lead

  • There are citations in the lead. No citations in the lead.

Copyvios

  • Checked with Earwig’s. And the copyvio situation might be terrible (47.1%) (from quotation)

Sources

Reliability

  • FNs 1 to 10 are not found in the RSP list.
    • FN 8 is Twitter, but I’ll let that pass. If you are keen of making this a featured article after this review, find a better source.
  • It’s been like, fourteen days, since I last commented lol. I have a concern for FN 12 (A YouTube source), but it’s not really that disruptive for it being a GA.
  • FN 13-15 is not found in the RSP list.
    • FN 15 is a dead link
  • Because of the lack of luck on using, WP:RSP, I’d rather churn out the sources on a table.
Sources on the RSP list (4/34 of sources)
Source Reliable?
FN 16 (People) Reliable
FN 17-18 (The A.V. Club) Reliable
FN 19 (Yahoo! Music) Presumed reliable (Yahoo! News)
FN 30 (Entertainment Weekly) Reliable

And these are the only sources among 34 sources I could analyse. I’m hoping for an improvement in sourcing if it deserves a GA.

Inline?

  • I can’t access FN 14. Can you tell me what it is?
  • I’m unable to access some of the sites, so the review for inline citations would be a bit limited, so table time.
