Juror Duty

[edit]
  • Might also be good to note that (as far as I know) the PFD list is where the court draws its names for jury duty, as opposed to the list of registered voters. (Submitted by an Unknown Person.)

From what I've seen even if you suffer health problems, they will require a written letter from a Doctor. The Jury Clerk will not accept any US Government letter of disability as an excuse.

Alaska State Statutes 09.20.030 cites; "AS 09.20.030. Exemptions.(a) A person may claim exemption and may be excused from service as a juror if it is shown that the person's health, the health or proper care of the person's family, a permanent physical or mental disability, or other substantial hardship expected to last more than two years makes it necessary for the person to be excused, or if the person is a judicial officer."

While "Alaska Court System";"Alaska Rules of Administration"; "Rule 15. Jurors -- Predetermination of Qualifications" (enacted by Alaska Supreme Court) cites the following: (l) Definitions.

(1) Deferral of Jury Service -- the postponement of jury service to a later date. This postponement can be no longer than 10 months from the date the initial term of service was to have started. A person may have jury service deferred if he or she shows that jury service at the time when he or she is summoned will cause hardship to that person or others, or that transportation problems make it impossible to serve. Jury service may be deferred only if the person seeking the deferment agrees to a deferred date.

(2) Excused -- a person may be excused from service as a juror if it is shown that his or her health, the health or proper care of his or her family, a physical or mental disability, or other conditions exist which would cause a hardship to the individual. Unless the court specifically authorizes a permanent excusal, all excusals from jury service shall be for the current jury year only. However, a person who has appeared for jury duty may be excused for two years from further jury duty in a jury selection area as defined in paragraph (b) with a population over 50,000

So if you are legitimately disabled and dislike going to Doctors, might be a good idea to just forgo the PFD. As they say, sometimes it's better to do without! ---roger (talk) 03:33, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    • This Wikipedia article was moved and renamed to "Alaska Permanent Fund", or omitting the "Dividend" word. Within the "Alaska Permanent Fund" Wikipedia article, "I have added a subsection respectively under "4 Issues with the Permanent Fund"; "4.3 Requisite of Jury Duty". I have appropriately cited the Alaska State Statutes and Alaska Court rules, Alaska Court rules are apparently enacted by the Supreme Court of Alaska. I have made mention concerning the strict requisites for excuse from Jury Duty. References can be further sought online. ---roger (talk) 05:01, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

table: adjusted for inflation?

[edit]

It is not clear whether these dividend amounts are the raw dollar values or if they're adjusted for inflation. I assume they are not adjusted for inflation (as the article itself doesn't say anything, nor does the linked webpage), but does anyone know for sure? I think this should be clarified in the dollar amount table, which could be expanded with another column to show the inflation adjusted amount in 2005 dollars.--Kaze0010 01:21, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Those are the unadjusted values, yes. The 1982 dividend was indeed exactly $1,000, and I recognize the amounts from 1995 on. —Zero Gravitas 01:53, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
