The result of the move request was: articles not moved Armbrust The Homunculus 13:52, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

– Of the 4,511 pages under , 3,985 are titled "Foo discography", while only 28 are titled "Foo albums discography". These moves would make the titles in question both more precise and more concise. The handful of pages that also have a corresponding "Foo singles discography" are generally WP:TWODABS situations that appear to run afoul of WP:DABCONCEPT, and can be resolved with a hatnote as needed. Existing redirects, disambiguation pages, or indices at these titles should be overwritten by the proposed moves. bd2412 T 23:19, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why? What's the problem? Most of the current titles are an accurate reflection of the articles' contents. Can't the "XXX discography" titles just be made to redirect to "XXX albums discography" to solve the TWODABS issue? —  AjaxSmack  02:14, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • It could, but why redirect from the shorter title to the longer title? I suspect that when people search for discographies, they are more likely to be searching for a list of albums, with singles perhaps being a subtopic of that list. bd2412 T 02:46, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • "I suspect that when people search for discographies, they are more likely to be searching for a list of albums..." That premise might be true for performers in the Album Era (1965–2005) but maybe not before or after.  AjaxSmack  18:33, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – I don't know whether you noticed or not, most of them have a split of the article as in XXX albums discography and XXX singles discography. Moving them back to the original content is a violation of WP:SIZE in this case, and I believe that to be the primal reason as to why they were separated. —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 05:33, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: The way I see it, the discography was separated in most of the cases because the body of work of the artists (or the articles themselves are too extensive). It'll be for the better if we keep separated articles dedicated to each type (singles, albums, videos), instead of having enormous subsections of each one on a single article.--GDuwenTell me! 17:10, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • @User:IndianBio and User:GDuwen, it seems that you are opposing something that has not been proposed here. Specifically, I am not proposing to merge the singles discographies back into the overall discography pages, and would join you in opposing such a merger. What I am proposing is to move the "albums discography" pages to remove the word "albums", because it is understood that a discography includes albums, while keeping the "singles discography" pages as separate pages on the subtopic of the respective singles discographies. This is no different than, for example, having an article at Barack Obama and a subtopic page at Presidency of Barack Obama, the former briefly discussing the material that is expanded on at length in the latter. bd2412 T 17:18, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above, these are album discographies, not complete discographies, therefore fails WP:PRECISE. Further, the suggested titles should not redirect to the album discograpies either, they should link back to the discography section of their main artist article, that would in turn link to the separate discographies that they have. -- 76.65.128.112 (talk) 02:36, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

See also Talk:Aerosmith discography for a related requested move -- 76.65.128.112 (talk) 03:17, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • What's the rationale for having separate articles on albums and singles discographies? Unless a joint article would be too large, this seems like the best approach for each artist. --BDD (talk) 23:10, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
