Themes
[edit]Is there a point to mention Ball's repeated use of the death theme? 85.250.181.120 (talk) 01:21, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- On the Culture Show on BBC tonight there was an interview with Alan Ball focussing on exactly this. Apparently he witnessed his sister's death in a car accident, and this seems to have had a bearing on his choice of subject matter and approach. 22:36, 10 February 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.155.202.152 (talk)
Victim of rape
[edit]During an NPR interview, something that came up was Alan being sexually abused as a child. A twist is he doesn't seem to exactly prescribe to traditional 'children are always innocent' views of underage victims of sexual abuse, which is a view which he carried through to some degree in Towelhead.--72.45.29.218 (talk) 01:48, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]No reason articulated. —harej (talk) 03:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Moving this doesn't even make sense. There are five individuals who are (approximately) named Alan Ball, moving this one to the dab page is fairly unclear. tedder (talk) 04:22, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose: In the United Kingdom, and I suspect throughout Europe, Alan Ball means the deceased English footballer with a strangely squeaky voice. Skinsmoke (talk) 16:52, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. We have several people named Alan Ball ergo we have Alan Ball as the disambiguation page. This is how we organize to address these naming issues. -- Banjeboi 00:02, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Playwright?
[edit]Although he's best known for his work on film and television, he does have a successful career as a playwright. Would it make sense to add a separate bibliography for these plays, or rather somehow alter the filmography heading to be a more general "Works" and condense it all there?
I have the published copies of his two full length plays and a collection of five short plays of his, so I could take care of the proper citing there. I know he has a few more short plays that have been produced so I could see if I could find internet citations for them, but considering they are unpublished and not feature-length works I see them of lesser importance here.
