[edit]Patrick! I should probably have sent this to talk page, but since you carefully watch over all that goes in and out of Alanya, you will certainly discover it.
Please check this link [1]. I can translate it if you want. It's about five -or three?- ships carrying food aid the Ottoman sultan Abdülaziz would have sent to Ireland during the Great Irish Famine and which were jettisoned in Drogheda. I see material for an article there, although this link is only a blog site and not very suitable for use in wiki. The only alternative I have for the moment is the section of an article in the newspaper Yeni Şafak :) [[2]]. But I am sure there is further information, perhaps in Irish sites. According to these two sources, this aid is the reason for which the coat of arms of Drogheda bears the crescent. We could envisage working on that if the subject interests you. Regards. - Indeed, sounds interesting. If I can't get other sources, I may ask for a translation. I'll have some time next week before school starts. I'm actually moving to Ireland on Monday so, yes, this is a confluence of my interests. Thanks for the tip!--Patrick Ѻ 14:35, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]Comment The idea of having this separate was to have a specific article on the beylik. This is about the independent city state, while Alanya is about the city. If you do want to merge it, please give it a cleaning up first, as the Alanya article is nice and tidy.--Patrick Ѻ 17:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- I understand. I will remove the merger proposal. On Alaiye, could you help sort out what the sentence about the 5000 gold pieces is trying to say. You seem to have more resources on this subject than I do at the moment. Thanks. Aramgar 19:03, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
