Merge subsections together?

Would it be a good idea to merge the gameplay subsections into just "Gameplay", because most of those are unreferenced. I think it's a good idea. Any thoughts? --EclipseSSD (talk) 16:46, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Copy-edit

While copy-editing, I removed this from the lead as the information was not included later in the article! Te question that remains is (a) can it be cited by a source and (b) but where should it be added back in?

"...the game uses the Genie Game Engine, a 2D sprite based game engine."

I have recently been working on additional copy editing, and will continue to do so over the next few days. -Drilnoth (talk) 02:46, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

As part of the copy-editing, I have removed the following text which was completely unreferenced.

"Each unit has the same aspect for every civilization. So, for example, a Korean Choson long swordsman is identical to a Persian one and a Phoenician one, as are bowmen, axemen, short swordsmen, cavalry, etc. Some armors and clothes are unhistorical, for example the long swordsman of above resembled more a Roman praetorian, and phalanx soldiers have a very heavy armor with a large tower shield that never were given to any ancient soldier (and they would probably be too heavy to wear together and with a long sarissa in a hand; besides, the phalanx was a formation and not a type of infantry). Some units were also available to civilizations that didn't at all have them. Hoplites can be trained by every civilization, and some middle-Asian civilizations can train legions and centurions, while Japanese Yamato can build triremes."

Done

The copyedit has been completed. After reading the article, I'd say that someone could probably nominate it for GA with a good chance of success, after they cleanup the remaining tags. While I was going through, I found quite a few places that need a reference, clarification, or possible removal and added inline tags to them. Otherwise, I think that everything looks good! -Drilnoth (talk) 16:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Age of Empires (video game)/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
GA review (see here for criteria)

Overall it looks good. It seems to cover the topic fairly comprehensively and is an easy read. The lead also looks good.

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
I think that the paragraph that begins with "Military units are created..." could be improved. For example, what does "while walls and towers are defensive fortifications" have to do with the creation of military units? The paragraph seems to switch between subjects and is a little disjointed. Perhaps the military part should be put last?
Can 'modified synchronous model' and 'triple hitpoint' be explained per Wikipedia:Jargon?
There are several unnecessary 'also's in the text. Please see User:Tony1/How_to_satisfy_Criterion_1a#Eliminating_redundancy for example.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
The infobox should be properly cited. At the very least the release date and ratings need a cite. The others can probably just have a single reference to the game box in the infobox title, if you like.
The format of authors in the references section is inconsistent. Compare "Rollings, Andrew; Morris, Dave" and "Russell, Lawrence T." to "Chris Anderson" and "James Holland". Please choose one style.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
To be on the safe side, File:Champions Of The Magnificent City.JPG, File:AgeOfEmpiresScreenshot.jpg, File:Age of empires.jpg and File:AoE 4 Wonders.JPG should use the 'Non-free use rationale' template. See the File:Age of Empires Coverart.jpg page for example.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
These issues should be relatively easy to address, so I'll hold it open until 1/9/2008. The only other item that stuck out for me is the repeated use of the same citations on consecutive sentences. I don't know of a policy against that so it won't stop a pass; it just looks a little untidy. =) Thank you!—RJH (talk) 23:18, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Comment: I think I've made the necessary changes to the article. --EclipseSSD (talk) 15:09, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
There's just the one issue left. Thanks.—RJH (talk) 16:32, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
