Necessary?
Is this article really necessary? Each one of the games has its own article ..and they are all more informative than this one. /shrug --Naha|(talk) 23:37, July 16, 2005 (UTC)
- The article was created to avoid someone adding a large chunk of information on Age of Empires, which is a major problem within some articles of debut titles, where the focus ocasionally goes to the series themselves rather than the first game (see Talk:Age of Empires#possible merge for what made me start the article) wS;✉ 14:40, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Has anyone noticed the guy in the AoE V teaser look like Master Chief from Halo?
I personally think that Age of Empires 4 and 5 will be for real. Since my grandfather was in the war, he might be in Age of Empires 4! (Hey, that rhymed!) And if Age of Empires 4 and 5 are real, do you think that they will have expansions, just like the other Age of Empires games?
- Why shouldn't they?. | AndonicO 10:08, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I noticed it too. It might be Master Chief. If so, it could be connected to Halo Wars which was shown today at X06, since the developers are the same.
How to add to template
- How do I add a game called Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War to the Age of Empires Series template? | AndonicO 10:10, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- I have no idea but you shouldn't as R&F isn't related to AoE. Joeking16 14:21, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
From the deleted Wololo article
In case anybody wants to add it anywhere:
Wololo is a popular term, sound and taunt in the Age of Empires series. In the original Age of Empires, priest units had the ability to convert an enemy unit to their own cause. During the conversion process, the priests would utter "wololo." The sound became very popular in the Age of Empires community and was used as a taunt in multiplayer battles. In every subsequent Age of Empires game to date, the original recording of wololo has been available as a taunt. Yomanganitalk 12:59, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the text, I added it as a section to this article... TomasBat (@)(Contributions)(Sign!) 15:56, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
AOE 4
That most certainly is not a WWII soldier, the M16 and helmet makes it all but certain that it represents a Vietnam War era soldier. Revising. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Timber Rattlesnake (talk • contribs) 04:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC).
Age of Mythology on the template
Recently, I found that the Age of Mythology games were removed from Template:Age of Empires series. I truly feel that it should be on there because, as this article states, "it has always been seen as the successor of Age of Empires II ". How does everybody feel about this? Image on the Logo of This Series
I think it would be great if we could insert an image which would be the logo for the series; as a matter of fact, I have got the image but just don´t know how to upload it; it would be great if someone who knows how were to do so OR if he/she could teach me how.
The image of the logo is the following:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jose y Valeria\My Documents\My Pictures\Tokxatron\aoeawards[1].gif
I would really apreciate any help of any type...
--TomasBat 15:30, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Click the insert image buton, you get Image:name.extension in square brackets. Enter a name such as aoe.gif (doesn't have to be the same as the one on your system. To add thumbnail and caption type the following in the square brackets: image:name.extension|thumb|caption goes here. Click preview. You will get a box with the image name. Click on that and it will take you to the wikipedia upload menu. Browse to the files current location. Don't change the new name box, it will be set to the name you refferenced in the edit, select the relevant licence, and click upload. Return to the page you just edited and click save.

Dawn of Man
I have added something to the AOE/Rise of Rome entry, as I do not think it should have a seperate entry as it is really an expansion o the original, however I have left the seperate entry on the page in case anyone disagrees with me.

Copy-editing
Wololo
The project began when Rasteve, a Tribulation Designs member, and leader of the project, announced that he had discovered a method by which additional ages could be unlocked inside AoE’s Interfac.drs file. Since then, a large number of members of the AoE community have jumped aboard the project.
Should this section be included? It might be better in the AoE1 article - it seems pointless to have an entire section devoted to such a small paragraph for such a large-reaching article.
Apart from that, I think that this copyedit is complete.

Age of Empires IV?
Link to Age of Empires III Heaven forum I'm sure you've heard of Sandy, an ES employee who answers questions. Unspecified source for Image:AgeIIITheWarChiefs.jpg
I found Image:AgeIIITheWarChiefs.jpg and noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. Someone will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If it was obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If there are other files on this page, consider checking that they have specified their source and are tagged properly, too. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:42, 28 May 2007 (UTC). Fair use rationale for Image:AgeIIITheWarChiefs.jpg
Image:AgeIIITheWarChiefs.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I think that the Age of Empires Union should be added as an external link. It is a great fan site (it's even officially endorsed by GameSpot), it is relevant to the subject matter, and I feel that the content on it would be a great service to the readers of this article. 77Knight77 06:24, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

AoE 4 and 5
It might need to be included that MS has registered the domains "ageofempires3.com" and "ageofempires4.com". This is just what I heard and I've no idea how one would go about proving that but it's something to look into. RedAugust 18:23, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Games, movies and the like normally register domains that they could use in future games so if they do make it then they don't have to pay someone else hundred of thousadns of Pounds/Dollars/Whatever currency they are using to get the domain back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joeking16 (talk • contribs) 14:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Wololo - Significance?
Please reference the Wololo section of this article and explain its significance/relevance for inclusion in the Age of Empires series article. Otherwise, I would request its removal from the article. .. Olephill2 18:18, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- It was a taunt in every AoE game...it's become the official motto of AoE (in a sense)...I'll try to find some referencing, but it's more of a cult thing (think O RLY?), so it could be tricky. Giggy Talk | Review 22:30, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I don't have a problem with that. Referencing might be nice, and your best bet might be usenet? That said, I think it's okay to keep in since it is such a well-known detail among AoE fans. Olephill2 16:21, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
AoE Multiplayer community (IGZones & GameSpy)
I added the websites for these gaming communities, because many Age of Empires players have very little idea on where to play online gaming, since the Zone closed in 2006. So I believe we should direct those users to these communities. Arsenic99 06:48, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Jason Marentette
Hello my Name is Jason Marentette, And i am an underground pro at video games, and when i say underground i mean people pay me to play them in videogames, I get payed to teach people RTS, FPS and TBS games, and the true meaning of a game like aoe2, this is my dream to become the best in the world at this game for it has meaning to me, a friend of mine had this game the day it came out and from that day i received a gift which was AOE2. Because his parents just split and his dad took his computer, so from that day i still play AOE2 5-6 hours a day depending on my other video game, pool, powerlifting and poker that i must play to make extra coin.
The reason i am so good is not that i think im good i map out every situation, finding anything that could ever go wrong, i have once taking on 4V1 pros at this game, and I dominated with eaz, as i was walled in with 7 layers of walls, i cut a weak part of the (black forest) map where there was know man watching of the area in my enemies base, then i walled him in to his own base so neither of his team can help him will i use 16 trebs, 36 archers, 37 pikemen and around 40 villagers to block and create camp in enemies base using bomber towers around my walled area of his town. anyways,

Citation of References/Information
I have had a read through the Article and would like to know what else in the article needs Citations, if any. Reccommendations of what should be Citated would be much appreciated.
PookeyMaster 23:57, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- I was also wondering the same :) Most of the article is just a summary of every AoE game, so citations are already provided on their respective articles. But the section Age of Empires IV and V doesn't have a main article, so maybe a bit more referencing could be done there. Apart from that, I don't know what else could be referenced. ♠TomasBat 00:18, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Having added further citations, would it be possible to get somebody to review the article and if it passes the inspection, to remove the box at the top of the page? PookeyMaster 23:32, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- It still needs a lot more citations - everything in every section will need to be sourced somehow. Dihydrogen Monoxide ♫ 07:30, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Like now :) Dihydrogen Monoxide (party) 05:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Comments:
- The big problem with this article is criteria 3a — major aspects. Put simply, I don't feel that this is an article on the series as a whole so much as a glorified "List of Age of Empires games". It's basically a few paragraphs of summary from each of the series with nothing extra to add. As this is an article on "Age of Empires" as a series, I would expect it to discuss that series as a whole, as well as doing everything that it does now. Other than the lead, however, there's nothing in this article that discusses the series as a whole. Some things I would want to read about if I were reading an article about the "Age of Empires" series would be Development, common themes and elements, influences, differences, legacy of the series as a whole, comparison between the different games etc. etc. Obviously these are just suggestions, and information on all of this may not be available, but surely some of it must be for a such a popular and well-received series. It be helpful to see some other GA "series" articles such as Mana (series), Spider-Man film series or X-Men film series. Obviously the last two are films, and not games, and certainly each article has more than a right to its own style, but these I think are the good Good Articles and should be useful for some.
- The lead introduces facts that are not present in the body of the article ("In 2004, prior to the release of Age of Empires III, it was announced that the Age of Empires franchise had sold in excess of 15 million copies."), which is a violation of WP:LEAD. Also, it lacks any information on the "Spin-Off Games" section, another violation of WP:LEAD.
- The prose in some parts is very choppy... expanding or merging the one-two sentence paragraphs would be helpful. Also, a lot of it reads like fact after fact after fact, which, per above, wouldn't be so bad for a summary section except it's the only thing the reader has in this article.
- "The game sold less than one million copies." (Age of Empires III, The War Chiefs and The Asian Dynasties) requires a citation.
Since the broadness criteria is absolutely critical, I am going to fail the article at this time. Thank you for your work thus far. Cheers, CP 05:00, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Intro Revision
I revised the intro a little bit. I addressed the issue in the GA review about not including the spinoff games and I changed all the verbs to present tense per Wikipedia:VG/GL#Verb tense. However, I think the whole paragraph about the games is just too muddled. I mean, there's just way too man bluelinks in that paragraph! It might not be a bad idea to expand that paragraph into a body paragraph about the role of history in the game, but of course, we need to have something in the intro. I can't really think of an acceptable way to change it. Any ideas? Thunderforge (talk) 03:15, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

GA review 2
I think I'll just spring off Paul's review. The scope is I would say sufficiently broadened to fix that concern. The prose is good enough, however I suggest help from the League of Copyeditors or somesuch to fix some awkward phrasing here and there, ex. "The game sold over 1 million units, not as high as its predecessor, but high for an expansion pack.[5]" David Fuchs (talk) 02:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
