Africanness
This article excludes light-skinned African writers such as J.M. Coetzee (winner of the Booker and Nobel Prizes), Andre Brink, Zoey Wicomb, Nadine Gordimer, Nawaal el Sadaawi. It would therefore be considered as extremely racist by many people, especially in racially-diverse South Africa. --100%RSA 23:33, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
excluded literary works
what about older african works such as the kebra negast, or kanem chronicles. anyone feel like adding those in. i would but don't know much about them. there is also a strong literary tradition in Timbuktu. Scott Free 21:00, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Too few viewpoints
I've placed Template:toofewopinions at the top of this article for it's exclusion of non-black Africans (e.g. Coetzee) and it's lack of coverage of North African literature (e.g. Ancient Egypt). Could someone with a reasonable knowledge of some of these subjects fix the article? --Oldak Quill 16:32, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi, OldakQuill. I added reference to the Ancient Egyptians, as well as to North Africans writing in Phoenician, Greek, Latin and Arabic. Cheers, Gallador 02:53, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Writers left out
The article fails to mention THREE Nobel Prize Winners: Naguib Mahfouz (winner of the 1988 Nobel Prize in Literature), Nadine Gordimer (winner of the 1991 Nobel Prize in Literature), and JM Coetzee (winner of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Literature), also Athol Fugard (prominent South African playwright of works such as Master Harold...and the Boys) should be added.
On another note, recent (2007) Nobel Prize in Literature winner Doris Lessing grew up in Zimbabwe and lived there from age 5 until she moved to London at age 30. Much of her work was inspired by her first hand experiences with apartheid.
Both writers Ngugi and Kenyatta from Kenya are left out of this article.
Could someone with deep knowledge of this subject PLEASE rewrite the entire article, it is a shame that such talented writers get no recognition. Georgequizbowl08 (talk) 04:20, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Ancient writers
Such as Saint Augustine, who lived and wrote in today's Algeria/Tunisia. I suspect there are dozens of such Greek, Roman, and maybe Byzantine writers. Maybe Carthaginian? Maybe Persian? Even Egypt could be included. Then Arabs in northern Africa.82.177.40.11 (talk) 15:42, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
What works of literature can be qualified as Easy African literature?
