South Sudan and COMESA

Hello

Haven't found a clue that South Sudan is a member of COMESA. Also in the COMESA newsletter they write of 21 members. [1] Southern Sudan is a participant in the COMESA RCTG Carnet, but not a member of COMESA. In my opinion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greygreg (talkcontribs) 14:11, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

The following article: [2] makes it clear that South Sudan in fact did not join COMESA back in 2016 like was initially thought. This is despite articles dating from the time period (such as the following [3]) claiming that it had. Instead, it seems that what actually happened is that from May 2016 South Sudan started participating in some of the schemes/projects set up by COMESA without actually obtaining membership in the organisation. The situation is similar to that between Turkey and the EU, Turkey participates in some aspects of the EU (namely it is part of the EU customs union), but it is not a member of the EU. - Wiz9999 (talk) 02:27, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
