I was thinking maybe there should be a temporary section of rumored/possible participants section, including the Ortiz/Babalu bout and the Rizzo/Buentello bout. ~Tkwon (talk) 14:03, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WAMMA rankings

[edit]

Is there a need to mention WAMMA's ranking of every fighter? Rankings are subjective, and it doesn't really add much to the article. --aktsu (t / c) 09:00, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'll move the rankings from the prose to the matchup detail. But it is notable, WAMMA is the only independent sanctioning body in MMA. If it was a boxing match that had four or five matchups between top-15 ranked IBF or WBA boxers, that would be notable, but it never happens. This card has more matchups between ranked opponents than any other card except maybe the first Affliction card.--2008Olympianchitchat 10:16, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the WAMMA rankings are speculative at best. WAMMA posted their new rankings for January and have moved Arlovski to #1 even though he has not fought since the last rankings. This appears self serving to hype the match-up with Fedor to protect their WAMMA belt and make it look legitimate somehow. How convenient, regardless of who wins the fight the winner gets the WAMMA belt and fights for Affliction. This is exactly what corrupted boxing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.57.119.110 (talk) 18:59, 21 January 2009 (UTC) I don't believe the rankings have any merit what so ever until such time as they are recognized by a few legitimate organizations as it is pretty obvious WAMMA is not impartial.[reply]

good point; plus having a fighter be #4 when he's only had 3 fights is a little ridiculous... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.57.119.110 (talk) 19:05, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Most of the new WAMMA rankings had the fighters on this card moving down. Sokoudjou went from #14 to unranked, Babalu went from #12 to #15, and Nogueira went from #10 to #12. Only Arlovski and Lindland moved up one spot each. The fact taht Affliction and WAMMA are linked is why these ratings are relevant to this article.--2008Olympianchitchat 08:28, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
