For the user Magherbin

[edit]

I invite you to twitter to discuss early history. I haven't made any attempt to edit with the multitude of sources we have because you seem to gatekeep this wiki for whatever reason. Before we start editing the page, we'd like to establish some sort of agreement about what is stated in the "sources"

No off wiki discussions needed, this is what the talk page is for hence discuss here. Dont change the text language if the source doesn't explicitly mention this. Magherbin (talk) 18:55, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's not an efficient way to exchange sources and justify your position. We don't need your permission, this is Wikipedia. Aseb2aden (talk) 19:18, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I get you dont need permission but read WP:Original research, this isnt a blog where you can insert personal views without referencing them. This talk page is not a forum to discuss early history, the discussion should be about content that is to be added into the article. Magherbin (talk) 19:28, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No one said this is a blog where you can insert personal views. I am well aware of how Wikipedia works. What this was is a way for you, like I said before, to justify your choice in sources, which is reflective of a very personal view as it is clearly selective. This is going no where, we'll let the edits and sources do the talking. Aseb2aden (talk) 19:49, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That is not an Afar man in the picture.

[edit]

That is not an Afar man. It appears to be a gauche. Correctionlordprime (talk) 13:46, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi can you add/change the name of the Sultanate of Girrifo to Bidu as this is what it's often called in the literature, I couldn't find any reference to Girrifo other than a clarification that it's also called Bidu (found one calling it Grifo) Alexanderkowal (talk) 00:13, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find any reference to the Sultanate of Dawe, multiple sources say there were only 5 Afar sultanates including Aussa Alexanderkowal (talk) 21:22, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please send your sources. Socialwave597 (talk) 22:47, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Socialwave597 is there a source for Dawe? Possibly in Dar'a?
Alexanderkowal (talk) 00:35, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Some travel guide, not sure who added it. I removed it now. Thanks for letting me know. Socialwave597 (talk) 00:48, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Socialwave597 Thanks, no worries. Can you also add Bidu/Biru as an alternative name for Girrifo as I found a lot more on google scholar with Bidu
  • Stated as alternative name: Eritrean Afar People – Eritrean Afar National Congress (dankalia.org)
Alexanderkowal (talk) 00:53, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want me to replace it or add something along the lines of "Girrifo/Biru"? Socialwave597 (talk) 00:58, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Socialwave597 I think the latter would be best, thank you Alexanderkowal (talk) 01:03, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just realized that you're a extended confirmed user, you should be able to edit the article. If not, is there any reason why you can't/couldn't edit this article? Socialwave597 (talk) 17:49, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Socialwave597 yeah I can, my bad, must've happened recently Alexanderkowal (talk) 21:52, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am a doctoral student at Emory University working on an academic article on Zeila, where many 'Afar live. I went to verify the sources cited in notes 7-9 and they're fake sources. I cannot find them at all anywhere on any database, and google only brings up this same page. I was going to add [citation needed] and remove the fake notes.
