This page states that the knowledge of the crypto used for classified material is iteself classified, whereas the AES page states that AES is certified by the US Govt. for with classified information.

What's up?

Thanks for spotting that -- it needs updating. I just removed it, because it seemed a little offtopic and, as you point out, now slightly inaccurate. The AES page goes on to say that, "This marks the first time that the public has had access to a cipher approved by NSA for TOP SECRET information." Incidentally, we also know the names of a bunch of other algorithms used for classified information, although the algorithms themselves aren't known publically—Category:Type 1 encryption algorithms. — Matt Crypto 8 July 2005 06:56 (UTC)
