The comment that Adrian Woll was returning to his base camp on the Rio Grande, and defeated the Texan forces on September 18, is entirely incorrect. Woll's forces were still in occupation of San Antonio on 9/18. Texan forces gathered in force on the Salado, to the northeast of the town. (The Rio Grande is in the opposite direction.) The Mexicans marched out in force, and gave battle. The Mexicans had heavy casualties, and withdrew, which is a defeat, not victory. The Texans lost but one or two men killed. In a seperate incident, but actually part of the same military campaign, was the Dawson Massacre, in which Mexican cavalry caught Texan reinforcements in the open. A force of 53 was either killed, wounded and/or captured. During the night, Woll withdrew his force. The incident was a victory for the Texans, as it kept Woll from continuing on to the capital at Austin. The incident on the Arroyo Hondo did take place as Woll and his forces were withdrawing to Mexico. Ret 77375 (talk) 01:54, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
