I've expanded this .ai stub, but I have no idea how to rename the article to a more descriptive "Adobe Illustrator Artwork" label.

What is the PGF that AI is supposed to be based on?

This topic is in need of attention from an expert on the subject.

The article states that "Recent versions of the AI file format […] are based on a native format called PGF that is unrelated to both EPS and PDF."

However, the linked Progressive Graphics File article describes a "wavelet-based bitmapped image format" — which doesn't make sense in this context, since AI "is […] for representing single-page vector-based drawings".

(That said, none of the other disambiguations at PGF seem relevant, either. On face value it might seem that the (now deleted) Portable Graphics Format linked to from PGF/TikZ could have been what was intended, but with its project page on SourceForge describing itself as "a TeX macro package for generating graphics" that seems unlikely.)

The section on AI support in other software is hard to parse, often inexact and inconsistent, maybe also (partially) out of date. I made a table, but do not know at all whether it is correct. — Christoph Päper 21:46, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
