Use in Office of National Statistics publication
[edit]Alistair Dent, the Mapping Services Manager for the Office of National Statistics, has advised the helpdesk that this article has been used as research material in developing maps for a forthcoming publication. Well done to all those involved in preparing the article. Capitalistroadster 00:11, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
Renaming and or changing this page
[edit]Should we change the name of this page and alter the text accordingly, seeing as on examination of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889, there were in fact no "administrative" counties in Scotland. The act altered the counties for *all purposes*.
How about "Counties in Scotland 1890 -1975" as a title?

Oh, and while we're at it, some of the counties initially had different names. Morayshire was certainly still called Elgin in 1890. Haddingtonshire was renamed West Lothian in 1921. I wonder if anyone has a refernce for the change of names of the others???

Perthshire and Kinross also formed a joint county council under the 1929 Act. I sall try and write a little bit about that this evening. I think we need to resolve the name of the page first...
Incidentally I see the census reports referred to "Civil counties", just to make things interesting....

- Suggest we contact User:Mais_oui! also, who I was talking about this (see User_talk:Mais_oui!. One possibility would be merging the pages - they aren't exactly very big. Morwen - Talk 10:31, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Merging seems the logical solution, alright. Lozleader 13:08, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Agreed, I've seen Morwen's proposals, is anyone going to do this? G-Man 00:51, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
